lol I did a udemy cert course that I played at 1.5x and paid $16 for

I feel like people in cert courses are all going for the same roles, no? seems counterproductive

knowing other people in the industry you intend to work in is not counterproductive, it is in fact very productive

most orgs that you're going to want to work at do not employ just one pm, and knowing someone that already does a pm job at that org gives you the inside line on a referral and potential job.

knowing peeps _in_ the industry tho

you didnt answer my question back before about the pipeline. how many resumes have you sent out, and how many of those yielded at least phone screens, etc?

I'm at 0 for 20 right now (1 rejection, the rest non responses), most not in tech though, but in direct healthcare. all that's been in the last two weeks

:ssh: so is everyone in class with you at school. sometimes jobs have more than one opening over time

PokeJoe

You need an IRL class not an online video thing. The class itself won't teach you anything your goal is to meet people to link you to a job. Hell ask the instructor they usually get a bit of feedback from each class they teach on who gets hired and where

alright time to ramp it up :black101:

ofc, the low number is also more about finding actual relevant pm roles that aren't construction, hr, marketing, finance, event, secretarial, or donor recruitment. 90% of my search time is sifting through these unrelated positions, where the other 10% is reading up, looking at glassdoor, tailoring my cover letter, and navigating some terribly designed job platforms. I unfortunately don't have the luxury of just plugging in all the languages and frameworks I know into an engine, nor do I have even spammy bs recruiters filling my inbox.

junior salespeep (sdr) cold email quotas are usually like 400-800 a month, the 20 a day mention was not a coincidence

now you see what is meant when you hear that a warm lead is worth 50 cold ones

Out of like 70 over the course of a month I've had 2 interviews, not bad but could be better. I just need to get out of this mess that is my current role and screen potential jobs better as an interviewee.

it really does, it's ridiculously demoralizing

i've also noticed that remote positions are kind of a rarity now, probably 85% of the listings i've seen were pretty old and the newer ones don't pay as well as ones that are hybrid or fully in-office

it's some serious bullshit

Our org is whole hog into SAFe and boy howdy what a way to waste everyones time and money

Everyone hates it too but were beholden to it because like 3 PMO people cant come up with stats to do their job effectively without forcing 300 people to go through the rituals

I feel like businesses successfully salary arbitraged all the remote jobs offshore or to the middle of the country and just have recruiters going after people in Ohio or wherev

i mean, i don't have a car even, i'd have to either buy one or fly. trains actually take less time most of the time

jersey city is about an hour by car during rush hour and it's 3.7 mi, the PATH train cuts that in half

Man i did a hour commute for three or six months before deciding never again, what a waste of your life. I won't take a job i cant reasonably get a 15 minute commute or less or be fully remote. Lifes to short to sit in traffic

ah but what if there was a train

for example say (checks Amtrak) you get up in Cleveland for a 5:50am train that gets into nyc at 6:42 pm

that can’t be right

ok let’s say you take the capitol limited to dc and catch an accela. you leave Cleveland at 1:54 am, arrive in dc at 1:05 pm then pick up the 1:50 pm accela to arrive in nyc at 4:38pm

never mind

Amtrak is fantastic between NYC and DC, OK between Boston and NYC, and the scenic route everywhere else.
