It’s no fun if Flash and Reverse Flash outmatch him so he’s at their level. The end.

I believe this sets legal precedent for him being the fastest thing alive. I rest my case.

Need to see Sonic as the Thing. Not the one from the movie or the Addams Family though.

#79 deserves the hype, a very good book. The art is absolutely phenomenal. Tons of great panels and some really striking colours. I do wish they had given the arc a few more issues to breathe though. I think it would have been well served with some more preamble and setup but I'm not gonna complain about what we got. The comic has been a bit boring in my opinion since the Surge/Kit arc finished so I hope they keep this energy up.

Gigi Dutreix (artist for IDW) is auctioning off the original painting of the cover of #81. It would be kind of neat to have such a unique piece but I don't think it's really my thing. The unnamed character is starting to grow on me though. Hopefully they end up being a compelling villain, the series could certainly use one right about now. https://ebay.us/m/OdXnPC

Looks like the comic is finally going to be moving passed Frontiers (and probably adapting it, I guess) https://x.com/IDWPublishing/status/1947695703175663769

Well, at least not a straight adaptation as that would cut the whole cast down to 6.... and 3 of those don't do much in the plot except be semi-transparent and talk to Sonic! (well, until the DLC)... but since Flynn already wrote that dialogue, all the characters would be repeating a lot. I am interested to see how he moves forward since I remember Frontiers having some pretty wild lore implications for the entire Sonic canon, but I don't want to have to do a deep dive on the Sonic wiki, so I'll be happy to let Ian do it all again where in a medium where characters can get a lot more yappy. Either way though, I'm excited to see Sage join the cast. She's great.

Man having Sage around is just going to make poor Belle get even more depressed

Same, there’s a potential Sage & Belle storyline in there that practically writes itself (the daughter Eggman accepted Vs the one he discarded). Plus I’d also like to see the former interact with Metal Sonic, Orbot, and Cubot

I think the red popped a bit better so that's unfortunate.

I guess this also means the default ending of Frontiers is canon as opposed to the DLC one where she never had to sacrifice herself in the first place

Uh. Why would that be canon? Given Sage is ALIVE I would presume this follows the ending where she’s, yknow, alive

That still doesn’t indicate which ending is canon, because Sage is blue and white no matter which ending she goes through, I thought?

Yeah, I don't think there's anything indicating it either way. It just depends on if she's rebuilt or not.

Ah ok, I couldn’t remember if she still had any red in her hair during the DLC and misremembered her only changing color when she was inside the Titan at the end But yeah, either way she’s still around by the time the game’s over In any case, curious if the comic will mention why Eggman hasn’t busted her out again until now Larryb fucked around with this message at 19:53 on Jul 23, 2025 |

I’m assuming the latter (IDW doesn’t really do game adaptions in the main book like Archie or Fleetway did and the next available issue is #80 anyway) But yeah, it does seem like Eggman would be a bit more competent with Sage at his side (and the opening cutscene of Final Horizon shows she’s onboard with the whole world domination thing) so I’ll be curious to see how they work that out Larryb fucked around with this message at 21:51 on Jul 23, 2025 |

It's an interesting question because it's kind of one that lingers over the games too since nothing has gone past Frontier. Robotnik's treatment in Frontiers was incredibly sympathetic despite him being his usual world-ending self and I'm not sure how you thread the needle of "insane dictator who wants to rule the world but is constantly defeated by a blue hedgehog" and "Loving father and his adorable precocious and seemingly good person daughter." Hopefully Flynn and the crew have something in mind.

Technically Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog was post Frontiers but that was an April Fool’s joke made by Sega’s PR department so I’m not sure how “canon” it was, there was the mobile only Sonic Dream Team which didn’t mention Sage at all, and Sage is playable in Crossworlds but it’s not looking like that game’s going to have any kind of real plot the way TSR did In other words yeah, the comics will be the first to really cover this specific ground (and as such, likely give us some inclination of how a post Frontiers Sage is going to be handled in whatever the next major Sonic game will be) which is going to make this particularly interesting to see Larryb fucked around with this message at 22:23 on Jul 23, 2025 |

The way Ian Flynn used to talk about this in his Bumblekasts (before he stopped so Sonic questions didn't have to be vetted by Sega, since he is now technically lead writer for the games), his idea seemed to be that Sage is a very good girl... in ways that Robotnik would approve of. Is she likely to enact a plan of mass murder? Probably not. Could she be convinced to aid in a plan of mass murder if it'll make her daddy world overlord? Possibly, if you couch it as for the good of the remaining people. Frontier's Sage stuff wasn't necessarily her learning to be morally good, it was her learning to be a person and how families and friends work, and that those are things she wants. Her primary goal was always "protect Eggman" and it became "protect dad" but that dad is still Eggman, and she knows it. She's alright with Sonic and co., but it would be easier for everyone if they just realized her dad could run the world SO much better. Yeah she ends up fighting for the good side in Frontiers, learns lessons, etc, but in the end she's still Eggman's kid and she still idolizes him. Basically, she might seem nice and everything, but she can absolutely happily build a death ray satellite to make dad proud of her, and too bad for the people who won't let him zap them with it.

Kind of an anticlimactic end. I mean I knew it would end with Super Sonic because of course it would, and I didn't expect any lasting consequences for either universe beyond some sequel bait (which we got) but still it all felt very... I guess "by the numbers" would be what I'm looking for? I guess if I had one complaint it would be all the Sonic characters staying in their JL cosplays until the end. Well, maybe if there does come a sequel crossover one day, they can drag in some of the non-game characters along with some B-list DC heroes. Give me Tangle & Whisper meet Booster Gold & Blue Beetle or some other ridiculous combos. TwoPair fucked around with this message at 05:40 on Jul 31, 2025 |
