It's either that or hear yet another stupid paean to blockchain that fails to bring up a single thing that wouldn't be better done without blockchain. "I want items to have character. Instead of having a server with all the character items and allowing them to be provided to players when they need them, every single player needs to hold an encrypted ledger of everyone's character items! Also do some bitcoin mining for me kthx!"

I dunno, Call of Duty: WWII allowed you to have diverse Nazis.

"Polygon | Call of Duty: World War II multiplayer lets you fight as anyone, history be damned" posted:

As I rounded the corner of a trenchline on Pointe du Hoc I came face to face with a German soldier. My rifle was held high and, running full bore, I drove its bayonet into their chest delivering a mortal wound.

This is not an unusual sight for a Call of Duty game. It’s been commonplace since the series’ inception in 2003. But right there, in my first demo of the upcoming Call of Duty: World War II, I noticed a big difference.

I’d just killed a woman. A black woman. A black woman in a German uniform.

Female soldiers aren’t new to the Call of Duty series. They were first playable in multiplayer with Call of Duty: Ghosts. At the time, producer Matt Rubin told Polygon that it felt like a natural choice.

“What we wanted to do was acknowledge the fan base that already existed,” Rubin said. “We have a lot of different kinds of people who play [Call of Duty] and we want them to be represented when we do character creation.”

But Call of Duty: Ghosts was part of a fictional timeline. Call of Duty: World War II takes place in the past, and that makes the game feel different.

For the first time in series history, the Call of Duty franchise is tossing aside historical convention in a dramatic way. The game’s multiplayer modes, including Team Death Match and the new War Mode, will give players a wide variety of options for customizing their avatar. Multiple races and genders will be available to choose from, and players will appear on both sides of the conflict to fight for both the Axis and the Allies.

And I'll make the same joke that that I made at the time: if machinima (the concept, the the company) ever makes a comeback, maybe someone could use the game to make a sequel to The Black Gestapo

I haven't played any of the Battlefields, but one of the Bad Companies I wanted to play because the trailers for it made it look like it was really goofy (one was a riff on Metal Gear Solid 4[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uRX6K-A_Xg]) I don't know if the game actually had that tone, though, but hearing it had a shrink-ray makes me assume that it does.

The big plot of the first game was "gently caress this dumb war, we're gonna go shanghai this evil private army's illicit gold bar stockpile."

"Preston Marlowe is a U.S. soldier transferred to Bad Company and embarks on his first mission with his new squad. They begin by seizing Russian artillery positions and turning the guns on advancing enemy armor. Proceeding to knock out several anti-air batteries, clearing the way for advancing armor and taking control of the city of Zabograd, the group stumble upon a Legionnaire encampment: mercenaries whose leader is The Legionnaire (Nathan Osgood), a ruthless commander. The Legionnaires are possibly the deadliest army in the world, according to Sweetwater, who also mentions how each is paid in solid gold bars. Transported to a dock farther away from the U.S. Army, they spot more Legionnaires loading a supply truck with gold. The truck ends up driving past the border into nearby Serdaristan, a neutral state in the conflict. Despite Redford ordering the squad to withdraw from the area, Haggard, excited over the prospect of getting gold, runs after the trucks, single-handedly invading a neutral country."

Funnily enough I don't think this has ever been asked in this thread. Er well some people in thread have recommended editing software in the past, and the thread consensus is that gimmicks suck and are distracting, you don't have to chase after pop culture zeitgeist so long as your subject is a genuine passion for you then issue can be ironed out with time and practice. You don't have to show your face if you don't want to, being comfortable with your own style is also important.

business hammocks posted:

The consensus from people who have done it and posted about it is to just find something you're passionate about and do videos until you get a feel for how you want them to be, and that you should especially not worry about being awful for a long time while you work it out.

The other thing is that it's purely something you do for fun or personal satisfaction in terms of any possible income--nobody makes any money from it other than a few in relatively special circumstances that can't be replicated any longer. And any niche that develops moving forward will probably be filled instantly by Fine Bros.-style soulless vampires from business school.

Hey, thanks for replying. I’ve got a long list of ideas for videos, and they’re all things I’m interested in, so I’m not chasing any trends or bandwagons or anything. Making a decent income out of these videos would be great but I’m certainly not banking on it - I’m currently caring for my mother with lung cancer, which emotional concerns aside leaves me with a lot of downtime. My career was at a bit of an impasse anyway, so I thought I’d give this a go. If nothing else learning video production skills will probably be useful.

Anyway, I’m mainly looking for technical advice - I at least need to buy a microphone that is hopefully a good compromise between quality and cost. I need to find out what the best editing program to use is, and hopefully some tutorials on how to use it, preferably with a focus on making this kind of video essay. Some kind of more general tips on how to structure essays and so on would be cool too. If anyone has any recommendations for this kind of stuff they’d be greatly appreciated.

There was also a trailer that riffed on Gears of War (Bad World) and Rainbow Six (Rainbow Sprinkles)

I don't get the joke, the actual plot was some fancy Japanese super weapon that was an EMP and also a tidal wave generator, which was also an EMP nullifier?

The point is the Bad Company series is a set of action movies based around WW3. The first was an homage to Kelly's Heroes. The second was basically every technothiller Hollywood has made (looking at you, Sum of All Fears) There is zero relation between the games except Russia is invading everyone, and the characters are the same.
