Man i actually know quite a lot about fluffy pony and i hate myself for it because when im the king of morbid curiosity when it comes to weird dumb internet trends. I had a thought about making a thread somewhere where i talk about their weird internal conflict between "sadbox" and "hugbox" where basically some people paint fluffies as sympathetic and with some level of depth and others just want to jerk of to dead/dying fantasy creatures. I never did it because i have zero confidence in my posting and i dunno where that would even go.

There's always a contingent that ties elevate it beyond the level bizarre boner material. The ones that are really successful can even reach full-blown lifestyle proportions—BDSM, Bodymod, Furries, etc.—obtaining a measure of community and broad appeal. Something tells me fluffy ponies lacks the oomph to make it over that particular hurdle.

I kind of feel a slight need to white knight the fluffy pony guys but they are monsterous and gross. some of them had some writing talent, mostly the "hugbox" ones who avoided the torture porn aspect and just wrote about people in the fluffy "universe" as such. I remember getting somewhat invested in a certain writers stuff because it was pretty much just mocking and taking the piss out of people who are into fluffy pony, painting them as edgy 13 year old potential serial killers. Stuff like that is why i found the whole thing fascinating.

This picture exemplifies one of the scariest things about furries to me. Look at the eyes of both kids in this picture. They are loving it. To them, they see a grown up in a cute costume being silly and pretending to be a dog in a normally boring grown up situation. And god love them in their ignorance. But the guy in the suit is playing out his sexual fantasies in public, and will more than likely go home and masturbate, (if he even waits till he gets home), over how hot and arousing and edgy and subversive it was that he got to pretend to be Baron Von Woofypants, (original fursona do not steal) in public. And that is not OK.

I’m blanking on the name but a few years ago a goon did an a/t on making fursuits semi-professionally and said with the exception of a handful of makers most very specifically don’t/won’t make a suit that would allow for sexual activity and many have warranties that boil down to if the suit experiences wear they’ll fix it unless it’s been used/modified for sexual activity.

here's a take: i don't particularly like cosplayers, especially heavily sexualized ones, for example, but i don't automatically assume every cosplayer (especially in public) is doing it for sexual gratification. furries are cosplay too, since they're just dressing up as a character.
