Aside from the obvious explanation of wizardly insanity, the differing conversation capability of Goondalf could be different writers.

Also thanks for this LP, I heard about this game and it sounded interesting because I really enjoy well-written games. I probably wouldn't enjoy playing it though because the combat seems rather unforgiving so that's what an LP is for.
The fame too. And no problem, thanks for reading! I enjoy the combat once I get enough health to not die instantly, but it's still not as good as the writing.

It's not so bad once you get used to it and realize this really really isn't Diablo. But it's pretty bad at the start of the game, parts of the middle of the game oh yea and also the... last... part of the game you know what? Never mind.

E: Felious is such a goon :allears: and fairly stereotypical for "good" necromancers. But Bones, though, there's a champ. Also, holy loving hell I never knew about that breastplate, that is insane. Goondalf is armored to hell and back.

Lots more fancy threads for us to dazzle our foes. :toot:

Having no way to resurrect party members is the first truly bad thing I've seen in this game, though. That's brutal. By all means make it difficult/expensive/really tedious to discourage the player brute-forcing everything, but flat out nothing is stupid. Especially when you are literally receiving training from a necromancer's undead buddy.

Maybe people have to be willing to be brought back from the dead. Why no I do not want to enter paradise I want to go back and starve in the besieged castle full of traitors, enemies and an obnoxious smugwizard "accidentally" hitting me with spells while ordering me around. Also he looted my pants off my corpse for some reason.

Yeah, that's one thing I would change if I were remaking this game. I mean, the Chapter One death scenes have you waking up in the infirmary after losing all your HP, surely companions could at least have something similar. Leaving aside how fun it would be to make a party of skellingtons, of course.

Thanks for a great update, yet another bunch of things I missed I see. Those are some important pants. Also, this game does not handle companions well. I am absolutely 100% on board with the idea of having an expendable skeleton army. Fortunately, the game actually solves the problem of you not being an army later in the game. In a manner of speaking. We haven't even begun to see Goondalf's potential realized.

These caverns though... Gosh darn them to heck.

Huh, neat. Always nice when games add a dimension to their minor villains. Even if it does come with an additional and probably aggravating quest arc. It'll be interesting to see how this eventually gets resolved.

Yes, the undead monstrosity - who is so ancient and powerful that the great mage Goondalf himself is unworthy of even reacting to - might be a good guy who's friendly and misunderstood and in no way poses a danger to us in the slightest.

I'm optimistic about this, guys. I think we made a new friend.

We don't know it's ancient. Maybe its death was just very unfortunate and caused it to lose most of its skin. Also calling anything an "undead monstrosity" in this game is very bigoted of you! Bones would be disappointed.

You know, that's a good point. That's totally ageist of me. I shouldn't be judging someone based on the colour of their skin - wherever it may be - or the content of their eldricht nightmare portal to the shadow dimension/heart. Judge him not on the visage of his decrepit husk but on the quality of his totally not ͓̉̍̓͐e̪̠͚͇̪̠v̳̥͕ͫ͒͛̇̓͑̑ȉ̥̮͚͓͍l̬͉̮̂ ̻s̞o̟̥͍͙͕̤̗͗u͎͔lͯ̈́̚. Totally. Live and let unlive I always say.

"Fedora of the Deceiver" is the perfect setup for a m'lady joke, well done. That was the first thing that went through my mind on seeing the item name too.

And this is getting suspenseful, isn't it? This game keeps getting better and better. I'll admit I wasn't entirely sold on it for the first several updates, but I'm definitely fully invested now.

Side note, maybe you can clarify something. How exactly do the resistance stats work (e.g. when it says 3-25%, what does each number mean?) I can imagine a lot of different ways it could work but it's not at all clear to me which if any of them it might be (is this a range, is one of them a minimum or maximum, etc).

I was confused by that for the longest time too. I touched on it before, but briefly, and a while ago. The number before the dash is Invulnerability, which reduces damage by that number exactly. The second number after the dash is Resistance, which reduces damage by that percentage. So "3-25%" means that that type of damage gets reduced by 3 points when we get hit, and then any remaining damage is reduced by 25%. For example, if we had 15 Electricity damage incoming, we would only lose 8 HP (-3 from Inv, 25% off remaining 12).

Glad to hear you're invested now, as well! Things are definitely getting crazy, that's for sure.

This update was completely lacking in stolen clothing. :colbert:

Despite that, this is one of the very few games where I feel that backtracking and filler is actually enjoyable? I can remember who the NPCs are now, and they refer to previous interactions like they're actually people instead of sidequest-dispensers.

It's also great that some of the chapters are optional. Doesn't help on first playthrough since obviously you'd follow the plot coupons, but in re-runs you can decide how much you want to go through.

(also... creamy elf filling? :stare:)

One of Siege of Avalon's biggest strengths is making the world come alive like that! The only annoying bit of backtracking for me is going back and forth from the third level of the crypt in Chapter Two, but the rest is great.
