I know we're on the tail end of things, but I remember that when we first heard we were getting a show set in the glory days, I was really hoping for something like this:

The show doesn't actually bother to comment on anything. We were told that we are going to see the Jedi at the height of their power, and we are going to see how their hubris allowed the Sith to rise.

None of that happens. The only commentary the show makes about the Jedi institution is that they are a seemingly decent bunch willing to allow the witches and their force sensitive children to live in peace.

Sure I guess if you completely ignore everything said so far by Qimir

Man, people have a lot of sweeping opinions about a show they even seen all of

Qimir has said nothing of substance. He doesn't like the Jedi because of their dogma and rules. He obviously has a grievance but the show has actively danced around revealing what he actually believes other than in his own power, which just makes him a regular dark side force user.

Likewise the show has deftly steered away from really revealing what the witches believe in and how that differs from the Jedi.

The entire philosophy difference between the witches and the Jedi comes down to the line from Hot Fuzz: "Official vocab guidelines state that "force" is too aggressive."

The claim was “The only commentary the show makes about the Jedi institution is that they are a seemingly decent bunch willing to allow the witches and their force sensitive children to live in peace.”

This is false. Qimir has had multiple lines directly making a commentary on the Jedi as an institution, such as his note on “semantics,” and “they think they can decide who gets to use power” and “they say I can’t exist.”

What all that means specifically isn’t quite clear at the moment. But holy moly, the mystery drama looks like it’s holding on to the mystery until the end? What a crap show!

THAT SAID: if they pull an Ahsoka and completely fail to explain anything in the final episode then yeah I’ll absolutely jump on board with the “neat concept, botched execution, bad show” crew.

I can't co-sign because the fantastic Wuxia fighting scenes, as limited as they sadly are, automatically make Acolyte better than some of the more pointless bits of Star Wars media.

Yeah the thing about the Acolyte, a show I don't actually like all that much but have spent a lot of words defending, is that it has a story in mind that it is committed to, and it has respect for itself and its audience. The execution is way off but at least it's trying. That's more than I can say for the lower tier Disney+ stuff (and yes it's a low bar).

I agree. I also agree with an earlier poster that I wish there were more of them. I can think of 3 great fight scenes off the top of my head? (The one quoted above is good for character work, but far too short.)

By the second episode I thought the hook was gonna be a Jedi assassination to start each episode - the fight in the first one, the force field poison puzzle in the second, etc. But those dreams were dashed.

Yord sounding obviously scared talking about how Qimir's fighting technique didn't follow the rules of combat, and Sol completely losing his temper and just punching the hell out of Qimir at the end were both real good character bits from Night.

Hoping for more good lightsaber fights tonight.

This is definitely plausible, but I do think it's noteworthy how much of a regression this is for Han either way. He's back to smuggling crap for petty dictators, he just has better optics doing it for a king rather than a Hutt.

If I were to recommend The Acolyte to someone it would mostly be on the basis of the fight scenes, which indeed have been very good throughout. It does feel a little like damning with faint praise, though.

That's the other big strike against TFA in my mind: not only is it little more than a shinier remake of ANH, it also undoes pretty much all the achievements of the original trilogy's heroes. For all intents and purposes Luke isn't a Jedi anymore, Han is back to being a lowly smuggler, he and Leia have split up, and the New Republic they all fought and suffered to make possible gets decapitated barely an hour into the film. It's a particularly distasteful, unimaginative way of wiping the slate clean.

I've been telling people to wait until it's done, because, while I think it's pretty good, it's paced poorly, so I think binging it would help a lot.

Yes, definitely. It's one thing to wait a week for the next episode when that interval feels deserved, so to speak, but that isn't exactly this show's strong suit.

Guess we got our Yoda cameo after all, curious how Season 2’s going to work seeing as most of the supporting cast is dead and the twins lost their some of their memories and effectively swapped places (assuming the show gets/has already been picked up for one that is).

Also we got confirmation that Lady Shrek was Qmir’s master (though that was kind of obvious)

i liked that they brought in the kyber crystal changes from visons

i thought the cgi swapping for osha and mae during their fight was very clean

i did not like that they are drawing out the vernestra/bortles thing instead of giving them the encounter. they brought like 10 jedi but then we didn't have some epic fuckin fight, lame

i did not like that they did not just have mae come with osha and bortles, instead of this really bad excuse to drag out a season 2 teaser

The scene with that Senator feels like something that belong in episode 2,and they ended up cutting that whole story line, but they wanted the reporting to the chancellor scene as a segue to the Yoda scene, so they introduced the Senator earlier. .

The action was good - everything else, not so much. Don’t think this will get a season 2.
