They generally don't affect the color you see, it's more that to cover the entire visible sclera the contact lens itself has to be pretty drat big

My dream far-out fan theory: Deep in a sealed First Ones ruin, they find twin cradles. There's a crude note in First Ones writing saying "Eternia is no longer safe. Please, in the name of King Randor, look after Adora and..." and the note is badly smudged so it looks at first glance like "Mara", but then Entrapta (who by this point has had her redemption arc and who's been studying First Ones writing notes that it's not just badly smudged so that the thing that looks like an "r" is a crooked "d", but the note has also been reversed. The note says: "look after Adora and Adam."
