I can just imagine some little kid with autistic tendencies watching her and being totally enraptured. (Please tell me if I’m using the wrong words here, I’m not deliberately being insensitive, but I don’t have a lot of experience with folks with this particular set of traits) From interviews, we’ve learned that Entrapta wasn’t initially intended to be written as autistic but one of the crew asked if she was, because *he* was autistic and her behaviour seemed really familiar. So they decided that yeah, it tracks that Entrapta is, and so they involved him in helping to write her that way, so she would be more realistic and relatable.

Finished season three last night. Apparently I was already halfway through it when I posted my s2 thoughts. “You made your choice. Now live with it!” gently caress yeah! Scorpia continues to be too drat nice for the horde. Is it widely known she’s a princess? It seems that she would directly undermine horde propaganda about princesses. Autocorrect keeps trying to say horse when I type horde so expect that typo to pop up a few times. The collapsing reality episode was amazing. I will never get tired of Bow’s commitment to a bare midriff. I love that’s how he realized that reality was all hosed up. I am ashamed at how long it took me to connect the queen’s name with the fact that she’s literally angelic in appearance. “I’m a coward” is another great line. In fact, this episode did more to make me like the queen than the entire show up to his point. Jesus Christ all their names are literal aren’t they? Every one of them.

It should be; Catra publicly used Scorpia's standing invitation to the Princess Prom to pull off the plan that captured Glimmer and Bow back in Season 1. Everyone who was there, including the Horde Soldiers, should know that Scorpia is (or could believe that she at least was, on a Technicality) a Princess.

Finished Season 4. More random thoughts: -Glimmer gets a new look and a power upgrade! Finally. -Not a fan of the weird rift between Adora and Glimmer. Really not a fan of how it continues to grow so far out of proportion. It's the worst part of the season, IMO. -I really love everything about Mara's story. -Omg Double Trouble's over-the-top theater kid persona is glorious. -gently caress yeah, Kyle is kind of a badass? I hope he gets a good ending. -Scorpia is now officially a princess. She was already the best princess, now it's just For Real. -You know, I'm kind of glad that Catra spent an entire season slowly driving everyone away and coming to realize that she's hosed up. Double Trouble's speech to her at the end, "maybe the problem is you," wouldn't have hit so hard if Catra didn't know it already. -The Razz episode miiiiiight be my favorite of the season. The way it constantly shifts in time is great. WTF is up with Razz though? She was a crazy old lady even back in Mara's day. How's she still here? -Hordak is really growing on me as a tragic character. His broken heart over Entrapta's betrayal humanizes him way more than I would have ever expected. And then to be thrown out by Horde Prime? Ouch. -Bow's impassioned speech about friendship to Entrapta owns, especially when she really DGAF. I love Entrapta. -Speaking of Entrapta, I really relate to how she deals with emotional trauma. I constantly struggle to make sense of my emotions, and it's often easier for me to shift into an analytical mode than to directly face them. She's way more extreme than I am, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a character on TV struggle anywhere close to the way I do before. -Huh, Glimmer's dad is alive. -I love that nobody really won at the climax. Adora broke the sword, but didn't stop the dimensional shift. -Horde Prime is gonna be a fun villain. -gently caress, Season 5 is the last season isn't it?

Started watching a month ago, reading the thread in chunks as I finished each season. Finished it tonight, immediately came to read the last... uh, 817 posts since the season 5 start. Kinda surprised at the conflicted reactions from many posters to the end, but oh well. I see some others are also still watching so I'll just dump thoughts I'm bursting to get out in a big ol' black box. I spent most of the series yelling in my head "TELL HER YOU LOVE HER YOU DICK" at Catra. Her line in the second-last episode, "Adora doesn't want me, not like I want her" absolutely crushed me. I actually already saw the big gay rainbow magic kiss on twitter before I watched the show at all, but even knowing how it'd end I still felt every bit of their confused, angst-ridden friendship, rivalry and eventual romance. I absolutely buy them together, I absolutely buy this being the start of Catra's redemption, and I absolutely want a follow-up one-off episode showing us Scorpia's future princess ball in full so Adora and Catra can have a proper dance. (And even though I knew it was coming, I still double-fist-pumped and shouted a big ol' "YES" at The Kiss.) I wish this Entrapta had been on my TV when I was a kid. Scorpia, too. I hadn't seen or heard anything about these versions of Entrapta or Scorpia prior to watching, unlike Catradora, and I'm glad I got to experience them without any expectations. Many of their quieter character moments really resonated with me and I hope a lot of kids get to see these characters, not just us alleged-adults. They don't have the most mass appeal but for some kids out there, those two are going to be really important and stick with them. I adore Mermista, too. Bit miffed she didn't get more screen time in season 5. This series does have the problem of having quite a large cast and most of that supporting cast being more engaging than the main hero and villain. I'd have liked this to have gone to at least six seasons; add another dozen episodes somewhere in the middle, so more characters could get feature episodes. Most variations of "[character-of-the-week] tries to corral Entrapta" would be grand. The reveal that Razz is slipping back-and-forth through time was wonderful and the whole pie episode is probably the best, even though it's the lightest on laughs. Not an absolutely original concept, but wonderfully executed. Prime/Hordak's voice actor should be handed all the awards for that last season. It was right at the start, but I'm still not over Entrapta dropping "hack the planet!". My nieces and nephews are all just a fraction too young for this right now, but this time next year I will make sure I have the blurays on hand ready to go.

Watermelon Daiquiri posted:I'm still devastated that my little cousin things she-ra is only 'ok' IMO that's a good thing - there's so much more media like She-Ra and general LGBT+ positive content out there nowadays that people actually get to have options on what they like or don't like. There were no gay couples in the cartoons I watched growing up and it wouldn't be until I dipped into poorly fansubbed anime like Utena that I actually saw non-straight romantic interactions that weren't a homophobic joke. I was 15 when I watched that.

pressedbunny posted:In 'Remember', Razz says "this has all happened before. I remember it like it was yesterday – for Madame Razz it was yesterday", which sounds like her usual confused rambling, which up until that point is only shown as her talking about the past as if it is the present. (Plus there's the portal exacerbating everyone's memories at that time.) But in the opening of 'Hero' she calls Mara 'Adora', who (in everyone else's timeline) Razz won't meet for another thousand years, showing us that she's not just confusing Adora and the present time with past events, but was also in the past confusing then-present events and people with the future. So when she said that long-past experiences were "yesterday", she wasn't just confused or affected by the portal; for her these things literally were just yesterday, as she's been living in both the past and present simultaneously. Yeah the laws of space and time apply to her in different ways and it's cool as heck that they never tried to fully explain how or why.

I possibly wasn’t sure if it was just metaphorical time slipping, like it was meant to be indicative of her mind slipping back and forth between then and now. I literally can’t remember it at all, so I’ll have to go back and watch.

pressedbunny posted:I spent most of the series yelling in my head [snip] Her line in the second-last episode, [snip] absolutely crushed me. About the same! I finished this yesterday, having watched a few episodes a day for the past two-three weeks. At first I felt pretty crushed when I learned season 5 was the planned last (This was before I got there) but the 'post-good-thing-sadness' is real. This show was great, but Ooof, been awhile since a show hit me like that! I felt season 5 was the best Catradora!, but also flawed due to perhaps too much ramping-up and plot-point compression. But I hardly think anyone would argue against more She-Ra, had the plot beats of season 5 been divided and extended into a hypothetical season 6. Catra's redemption arc, not to reopen the enormous walls of text up-thread, resonated and very much struck home with me. Wish there had been more moments of "I'm sorry I got angry, it's something I'm working on" (Cue Adora's sparkly eyes) to cement her character growth. ConfusedUs posted:Catra’s voice actress is amazing. The scorn, the taunts, the mocking laugh, the hurt, the anger...she’s got some range.
