Omnicrom posted:It's also probably better for her cover if she's known as a very messy and very single woman. Hell, she might be intentionally learning into that stigma to bolster her cover. No doubt she's under surveillance and if she looks like a low-down disaster area who can't be trusted with anything serious it probably gives her a good amount of leeway and provides some inherent misdirection. And as for female agents being taken out those were covert agents going deep cover akin to what Twilight is doing. As BearDrivingTruck says she's publically known to be working for Westalis, but Ostania likely doesn't know in what capacity she's really working for them. It's certainly not bulletproof, but as long as Ostania thinks she's just a low level clerk flailing along day by day there's no real reason to go after her, they'll think she's unimportant in the grand scheme of things and definitely doesn't have any significant intel so she'd be a waste of time to interrogate. Yeah, apparently it's okay and not suspicious to be single as long as it's obvious WHY you're single. People take one look at this sad woman walking around with pasta on her shirt and think "that makes sense".

With each focus chapter, Handler just owns harder and harder.

Really cute chapter, Bond and Anya work really well together. Pretty sad revelation in the end though.

The story has been hinted at (before) that the Handler has a traumatic experience with losing her loved ones, and the timeline seems to tie in with the raid started Loid's origin story. I wonder if the manga will delve into it, or her backstory will become a side story one-shot.

I wasn't sure before, but considering we just had a full chapter focused on Handler, I think it's a safe bet that any important backstory of hers will be a part of the main story.

Omnicrom posted:And being a complete disaster doesn't technically count! I love that while being a complete disaster is mostly a cover, she's still actually kind of a disaster in reality. The reasons why are pretty sympathetic, but may not be the the root of all of it at the same time, since it's probably not the death of her family that causes her to be capricious with coffee for example. I do like that Handler is a cause of concern for ants in a spy agency too. It's probably a coincidence, but I can still imagine an exasperated Loid asking aloud to the office if they "want ants, because this is how you get ants!"

Well, we weren’t going to brutally assault the foreign embassy in a flagrant act war, but we heard one of their diplomats might be single. We just can’t abide by that! Her apartment was also messy, though, so it took us a bit longer to convince the top brass to declare an invasion.

the secret part is that she is an important spy.

We already kinda knew with Handler, but that one panel flashback has me wondering when we're gonna get traumatic war-torn backstories for more side characters. Mangaka's lust for darkness is gonna turn Nightfall and Daybreak into depressed war orphans too.

However I won't accept anything else than Daybreak having a ridiculously happy and trauma-less childhood with loving, supportive parents who spoiled him rotten and fully accept his dream of becoming the best spy.

I'd feel a little bad if they also gave Nightfall a really sad backstory, she's already destined to not get what she wants most in this story.

She's destined to not get Twilight, but she hasn't met her true love, Daybreak, yet. She'll be fine. There's probably a reason she's so obsessive, and hopefully there'll be a chapter or two about her breaking that problem.

Can they really be regularly disappearing women just for being single? I kind of assumed that was just paranoia on the part of WISE, because actively persecuting all unmarried women as spies sounds like a lot of work for no real benefit.

Maybe not escalating to the level of disappearing but catching extra scrutiny is something Yor can't afford due to the nature of her work

A bit ominous that the Handler just casually brings up that the mysterious super-science group might still be active what with the recent weirdness surrounding the Desmonds. Nothing foreboding about that at all.
