He's effective in his spy work, he's effective as a psychiatrist, and he's able to evaluate threats and neutralize them in all kinds of environments. He's just an utter moron around his wife, because he's in love and very unused to the emotions involved.

Counter-counterpoint: the story has already had multiple scenes of people thinking about or expressing their feelings and they can be some of the best stuff in the manga, like Loid waking up to a drunken Yor singing the nursery rhyme his mother used to sing to him, and them discussing whether Yor is a good fit for his family or not, since Yor had no confidence in her place as Anya's mother. Execution counts, and the mangaka does really good scenes where people actually talk about things.

everybody thinks that the endgame is gonna be a mr. and mrs. smith thing where they are tasked to assassinate the other but find they love each other enough to defy orders, but i am still holding out hope that loid's cover job as a talk-therapist psychologist is no accident and the denouement will be several hours of family therapy while glimpses of various explosions and martial arts battles and so on in the window outside reveal that there is a bunch of spy stuff happening simultaneously to which neither we nor the forgers are privy, and they emerge as a new, genuine, family to find that daybreak or whoever has resolved all of the other plotlines without their intervention.
