I think it really resonated with his own memories of his background. With how much stuff has been revealed over the course of the series, I feel like an "Endgame" would be WAAAAAY too abrupt.

I think more than anything, I want to see what Yor and Loid's relationship looks like once they're aware of each other's secrets. I understand why its narratively more logical to end the story with them learning the truth and still choosing to stay with each other, but I want several dozen chapters about them figuring out how to make this work once all the cards are on the table.

Yeah, if anything this is straight-up a prerequisite to any romance, since having a romance with the current level of (mutual) deception is kind of ethically dubious. It's liking dating someone while lying to them about most important aspects of your personal life.

i'd probably go with the anime-- it's a good adaptation and you'll definitely be able to figure out if you want to continue with the manga but neither is a bad choice

I didn't notice this on first reading, but Melinda Desmond does not actually eat anything at the family dinner. She is only shown drinking wine in all of her panels. And when she leaves the table, her plate is full of food and is completely untouched.
