When I saw the CYBERTRUCK billboard in Bad Janet's void I stood up from my chair and did an NFL touchdown dance. That is the hardest I have laughed at a joke in a long time. It is just perfection.

the thing i like about their elon jokes is that they are part of a larger number of jokes in the show that make fun of relatively obscure examples of douchebaggery. the cybertruck reference is extra good because it still be enjoyed by the members of the general public who can laugh about "oh, ha ha, bad janet would totally love the big fuckoff spaceman truck". meanwhile the people who understand the stupidity of elon musk get to enjoy it on a completely different level the only problem i have with the cybertruck joke is that it's pretty much impossible to explain to people who don't watch the show ![]()

I half remembered the post I made on the first page and went back and checked it, and good lord. My plan for what I thought the fourth series was going to be about bears a strong resemblance to the new system they were designing in the most recent one. I am hoping for at least one more surprise though!

Stupid theory: didn't they say people wouldn't have a clear memory of their past life, but would have 'a little voice' suggesting that actions might be good or bad? Isn't that a conscience? Are we living in the new system already?

Well, in our time there are. I don't know how you can deal with time differently in the show. We're talking about immortal beings outside of the progression of time on Earth dealing with a different reality. It is always going to be a little fuzzy.

Something kind of interesting with Confident!Chidi is that it happened before he was regifted all his memories. The last scene alone with Brent he finds the confidence to call him out in no uncertain terms and even shuts him down when he tries to use humour to cope, and even before then, when he is preparing for the final mindwipe he is a lot more sure of himself than he was.

Well he was facing a definite consequence with huge implications in both situations, and had already made a major decision in one of those instances and so had no further need to waver and could only look at what was coming. Existential dread (or existential courage I guess, in the case of when he agrees to blank his own memories) can galvanize you in ways you normally don't feel.

Yeah, and having had nearly a thousand similar experiences crammed into his head at once through the Time Knife probably made him go 'huh, this usually turns out OK'.

It’s interesting listening to the podcast because when they discuss season 1, they make one off jokes on the podcast that actually eventually are things that are in season 4. One writer referenced an idea that had for season 1 that was “a game night gone bad” and Mike Shurr when discussing episode 13 tells a story about when nothing matters and elaborates by saying “When you’re making Pirates of the Caribbean 17...”

Goodness what a great joke that was ![]()
