Batiuk is trying to go for some sort of "children are the hope of the future" sentiment, but it rings hollow because of this comic's sheer contempt of kids. One of the main settings is a high school, yet we don't have any kids as main characters. Hell, the last time I remember kids being on the comic it was Les treating the high school news group like they were a bunch of idiots.

Note that they're not even bothering to ask why the merdodos sent that rock after them, or if it was even an attack at all. They really don't see how loving up Mars irreversibly would make others feel hostile towards them.

Following "She sees you as her mom now" with "You just passed the first test to being an adult" sounds pretty lovely to me.

I don't disagree, HOWEVER!

It's a drat VW Bus. Jeremy is scrawny but he should have no issue pushing that thing out of the way. That is just learned helplessness, and plain inconsideration.

They should do like The Phantom and make Sundays a separate continuity. On weekdays, Dawn and Jared discuss the relative merits of corny vs. wacky parents, and on Sundays, Mary punches imprisoned terrorists in Bangalla.

This reminds me, there is a whole lot of really unusual and undeserved hatred for all the characters in the Curtis comments, all the time. People delight in calling Curtis stupid, lazy, a failure in life. One mentioned that Barry is "a few years away from juvie" and they all love to call Diane stupid and ignorant.

hmmmm I wonder why that's the case with this particular comic.
