Y'know Sally Forth gets a lot of :words: criticism but the words tend to be meaningful or clever. The characters are well-defined and never act out of fashion just to advance a brain-dead story. It's a good strip.

These two, however...these two can fall in a well and die. Especially 9CL, but especially Funky.

For any of this poo poo to work, cancer in the Winkerbeaniverse would have to be a one-in-a-billion disease that's an absolute novelty to the world at large, where audiences would eagerly latch onto the pitiful minutiae of a "tragic" romance that would otherwise only meaningful to the infatuated. I hate this, I hate it to Hell.

When I want to relax, I read an essay by Engels. When I want something more serious, I read Corto Maltese.

In today's Corto Maltese: I would say Deus ex Marianne, but she hasn't really DONE anything by coming out of the blue like this..., or Are you thinking what I'm thinking...? MAKEOVER!!!!, or I know I did this last time, but since it's a good way to put things in context, Karagoz and Hacivad is an actual shadow puppet play in Turkey. It's things like these which really makes me like the adventures of Corto Maltese, evidence of research that's not simply added in willy-nilly

One of many ways to describe mobile phone plans, yeah.

In theory they also have cable or DSL internet at home and those are generally unlimited although some are throttled after a certain amount of downloads (usually a tremendous amount)

This comic is a bit boomery

I'd been wondering about this; I know Compu-Toon and (sigh) Working Daze have already made mention of the current terrible event, but for comics published in actual newspapers by syndicates, I suppose this gives us something of a timeframe.

I don't know where Zits takes place but when I lived in the sticks of New York I had 50 gigabytes a month (except from 12:00 am to 6:00) before my speed was throttled to 56k levels.

I still think it's a good strip, but Ces gets carried away with the pop culture references and there are often too many words.

But then you get storylines like this that feel very real and true so I'll deal with the occasional not-so-satisfying ones.

I know of a ton of people like this, like I'm not going to give details but I know multiple people with, at best, strained relationships with their abusive parents, but the parents went through a horrifying level of abuse so their gauge for what's normal is off. Like one person's mom was convinced she couldn't be abusive because she never hit her kid.

Obviously this doesn't mean if you grew up abused you're destined to be an abuser, but I think if you aren't given the resources to unpack what happened to you and don't do that hard emotional processing you're left in a really unhealthy place. It's never too late to get help, but unfortunately it can be too late to have a healthy relationship with certain people.
