Holy poo poo is this "the noodle incident"? I didn't know it was actually something that happened in a strip - I always thought it was an absurdist dangling reference.

And now we're in coronavirus territory. Retail employees wearing masks is generally considered rude in South Korea but that changed very quickly once the outbreak happened. Not that it's relevant to the joke in this case. Park Sung-hoon could have just scribbled them in last minute.

I don't think it's THE noodle incident, no. A noodle incident, perhaps.

Though if any nuclear family strip would include a muslim side character without drawing attention to it I honestly think it would be Tinkersons. Imagine what a shitshow Fort Knox or One Big Happy would make of that idea. Actually Family Circus might, too.
Sally Forth dared to draw a negrocharacter wearing a hijab and they got angry letters/comments if I remember right. I don't remember if it was something Jim Keefe just did or he and Ces talked about it, but it wasn't even a character, just someone in the background in a classroom.

Someone posted this on the comments a few days ago:

About 2 months ago, James posted this:
"Hi everybody. After reading a few comments, I thought I’d chime in and let everybody know I’m ok. I’ll try to make a long story short. I found myself having to be away from my drawing board for a period of time.
Hoping to not miss a beat on the strip, I decided to go “mobile” with my work. So I packed up my iPad and my Cintiq from Waucom. The Cintiq is a drawing tablet, and iPad has a drawing program called Procreate. I’m not crazy about either, but the Cintiq is doing a better job than the iPad. I hope to return to my big old fashioned drawing table in my home studio soon. As usual, I want to thank you all for reading, and despite being very busy, I’ll try to respond a little more often."

A little less than three weeks ago, James posted this:
"Sometime ago I posted that I have been feeling under the weather - truth is I had a little bout with the flu. I am recovered now but When I posted the comment originally you folks flooded me with well wishes and good thoughts! I have the best leaders in the world thank you!"

I do think certainly those supporting the inclusion of that character outnumbered those who were upset by it. It probably helped weed out the people who would have later gotten angry about the interracial relationship between Hil and Duncan.

Eh, he's a father that broke the jaw of the guy who tried to kill his teenage daughter. It's more like revenge than torture. What he did to Chatu, The Python! is closer to the torture line since he's being held extrajudicially in a jungle jail cell alone for the rest of his life.

I'm kind of curious, did Lisa already have cancer when they got married? Because the most Batiuksian scenario I can imagine is that they placed a wish for Lisa to get cured so Les can be a sadsack and say that their wish didn't work.

What does this reaction even mean? I know some people never fully get over losing their loved ones, but Les is acting like it's a fresh wound and not something that happened nearly 20 years ago.

Torture is also something done with a goal in mind, I thiiiink he does try to milk information from Chatu while knowing he's got no reason to tell the truth. He didn't really want anything from the Nomad except to break his jaw.

Now, you can say, wow, the Phantom really solves his personal problems with an extreme level of violence, and you'd be right, but I like to correctly identify the thing he's done here.
