It's very disappointing that they ended Newspaper Spider-Man, but we have a thread for it where we are currently going through like 3 old stories if you need more of a fix.

I still hold out some slim hope they will make a Marvel newspaper strip to replace it, but it's more likely they'll just keep running reruns and let it die slowly as newspapers drop it.

Delta. Her thing was that she was smart and cared about school, so she went to a good university instead of the terrible one the rest of the cast went to. Of course, that doesn't explain why she's never been seen, heard from, or mentioned ever since.

Greg has said he wrote Delta out because she was impossible to write for. There just isn't much to say about an intelligent and ambitious left-leaning politically-active young black person in a predominantly white town in modern day America! What kinds of storylines could she possibly have???

Now, to be fair, when Greg wrote her out of the strip Obama was president and I don't think we even saw Trump on the horizon, so racism was over and liberals had won all their battles and America was a utopia or whatever. That said, to go back to being unfair, that time has long gone and Delta went to college, not the moon. She can still come back and visit from time to time. But she doesn't.

I suspect (though obviously this is just speculation on my part) the official reasons for Pru being written out are similar. It's just too hard to think of stuff to write about a young lesbian in a small town. Thus the only solution is that she, like Delta, must be written out entirely. They can't possibly just be small side characters that we see sometimes like TJ or Ox or Luann's dad.

Because Luann doesn't date at all. If she doesn't think the person is marriage material after the first tepid lunch date she swears the whole thing off and the app she met them through as well.

yeah, that much will become more obvious as it goes on, too. there's a fair bit of commentary on politics and current goings-ons at the time and it manages to be pretty funny about it for the most part. there's definitely plenty of one-off gags here and there but there's a fair amount of running plotlines to follow through. not that much different than a lot of the current comics, but i guess not everyone expects an older one like that to do it.

Yeah, the current storyline is the first real foray into politics (with a special guest in tomorrow's comic!) and Breathed comes back to it fairly consistently.

It winds up getting a little more out there, but early Bloom County is very much, uh following in Doonesbury's footsteps to put it nicely.
