As to the Norwegian comics so far in this thread; yeah, there'sa kind of... sneering superiority around them? That's why out of all of them I 'like' Zelda the most because the titular character is scum as well.

But Zelda is swedish and not norweigan, her creator is from Stockholm.

I stopped reading Zelda after the first two, but I admit that it is like Holbrook's garbage in that it gets people talking, as a horrible car crash gets people to slow down.

Anyway, here's Juliet Jones, in which J Jonah Jackson has made a beeline towards Eve.

Hal Foster deserves all credit for his creativity and imagination, but in art history you could *almost* always point to earlier masters who had similar visions. Not absolutely always though, it would be hard to think eg. ancient Egyptians depicting a king in this manner (or perspective).

As a side note, they are at a dance pavilion and back then many dance places also had their own slammers for kids who'd taken too much of the sauce. Alcohol wasn't allowed at the pavilion and you couldn't slip outside to drink (not without re-paying for entrance) so obviously the correct strategy was to empty your flask outside the gate in one go, get in and black out.

Here's a traditional dance jail in Syvälahti pavilion. This is unusually sturdy as it's in the basement, usually they were just shacks.

Honestly this is one of the last Zelda topics I would have thought would provoke a tangent. It's not like Swedish people are uniquely known for coming up with excuses for not giving money to panhandlers. I've also heard it described as a Korean stereotype and I'm just left scratching my head thinking, have you like, never talked to anybody in the United States about directly giving money to homeless people before?

But really though. The person who mentioned that they own a popular local hang out is right. They can just post "room for rent" on a bulletin board there and have the room filled before the week is out. Hell, Pru was an employee of theirs. Do they have any other employees who could use a new living situation and who want to live with their boss? (tiff) Does the person they want to hire to fill whatever it was Pru was doing (renting the venue at no charge to known scammers to run their scams out of) need a place to stay and want their boss as their landlord? Did Pru give two weeks notice? (almost definitely not)

So many more interesting places this could be going than this boring Craigs List plot.

Something about what they're doing seemed kind of familiar, and then it clicked: This is pretty much how Luann behaves when it comes dating. Instead of putting up a post that they have a room available and then meeting the prospective boarder to see if they click, they're coming up with all sorts of criteria about who they want and then they'll turn away anyone who doesn't meet their impossible standards.

Thanks, I was looking for at least one voice of support to do it. :)

I discovered Kliban back in the 80s when my friend got "Whack your Porcupine and other drawings" as an Xmas gift and loaned it to me. I think I got half the jokes, I must have been twelve.

I'm just going to follow each day as they are on GoComics. I know there's some trick for getting a higher resolution image but this is what I've got for now.
