I'll make sure to do it right this time. ![]() ![]() Guy: Oh how I love natural women and don't like blonde babes. Yadda yadda yadda. Zelda: Excuse me, I just have to wee a little bit.

Tiggum posted:I assume you mean live-action, but Homer Simpson kissed a man in 1990. Oh yeah! So he did! I can't believe I forgot that and I can't believe that in looking up the male/male kiss on TV apparently everyone else did too. It's odd that the Dawson's Creek kiss is specified as the first prime-time one of its kind, which makes me wonder if there's some obscure scene in a day-time soap or something, but doesn't make any mention at all of the animated scene from The Simpsons. Although now I want to go off and watch The Celluloid Closet again.

Tiggum posted:Imagine asking your employer to pay you more money just because your cost of living has increased. And thinking there was any chance of getting it! I can't even tell if this is a "the past was incomprehensibly different" thing or a "comics aren't realistic" thing. Possibly the latter? Note the opening panel in which Clarice tells Aloysius to do it. Believe it or not, someone desecrated 2000 graves? edit: okay, it wasn't a wanton act of graverobbing - during the Depression, the city couldn't afford to maintain a cemetery with upright marble headstones, so they sliced them in half, laid the halves with the names flat on the ground, and sold the nameless halves for $45 total. Which still seems like a scam to me - surely just the labor to uproot the stones, slice them, and reinstall the sliced halves cost more than $45? Cowslips Warren posted:I grew up in the 80's/90's and was only vaguely aware of gay people, like Elton John. Melissa Etheridge surprised me far more: keep in mind I was a sheltered kid, my dad was horribly old-fashioned ("you'll learn to drive after you learn to iron!" I was about 10 when I started ironing his clothes) and I had had no idea that women could like women. My education of the sexes in terms of relationships mostly came from my parents' unhappy marriage, and trashy romance novels that always had a stubborn headstrong woman who 'learned her place' because of a man, who was usually a rogue of some kind but had a good heart. So my theory always went that eventually all women would become 'real women' once they were taught by said rogue. No, there was never any discussion about this in my house, why? Be who you are. Me, I'm a person who doesn't read DTWOF here, because it's just a little too small for my eyes. And a lot busier than I remember from the days when I read it in the Baltimore City Paper. There's a lot going on there. I like the notes. Anyway, here's a Sunday Juliet Jones. I'm beginning to think Pop Jones just hates to have the extra room unoccupied. ![]()

Hostile V posted:Oh I don't want him to do poo poo, I just imagine that's the next panel that follows. It's just such a clunky dramatic thing to drop and it's either going into the direction of "Curtis suits up to go see his teacher in the hospital" or the weird direction of "Curtis develops existential despair in the face of a pandemic" and frankly I kind of don't want either. It's interesting that loving Curtis is one of the first (still in a newspaper eat a dick Intelligent Life) plot comics to slide these current events in but also I dread the directions it's going to go with. Rex Morgan I can deal with because he's a doctor, it makes sense. OK I'm just a little worked up because I am realizing this will kill lots more black folks than white, proportionally.

Cheap for marble, guess there was little money in executive bathrooms during the depression. Still, I suppose it was more about laying off most of the graveyard staff.
