Luann hits that spot for me for sure and how it hasn't managed to tip itself into the range where I can't even enjoy hating it anymore, I don't know. I just have to read it. I have to know how lovely it's being. I know that there are plenty of people in this thread who feel this way about Holbrook's work, though I mostly skim those. But this? This poo poo? This feeds me: ![]() And no! You can't buy Luann's brilliant t-shirt on Amazon for $23! What the gently caress, Evanses, how did you miss that trick? I'm actually disappointed in you. But while looking for the hilarious Zucchini shirt I did see that there are lots of Pheobe clothes for sale. A good comic! So if you want a cute shirt or some leggings for yourself or your kid with Pheobe's unicorn on them, now you know!

These two deserve to be miserable with each other. I know it's an edit, but you helped clear up something in Mark Trail for me. I was always confused why so many strips had characters in panels 1 and 2 facing in one direction only to flip around for the final panel. I thought it was pointless, but James probably does it so people wouldn't easily notice how the character in panel 3 is just copy-pasted. You could argue that it didn't belong to Mars either since it was the remains of previous invaders. I think technically the merfolk might be the closest thing to rightful owners?

Barnaby, April 23-28, 1942![]() ![]() ![]() (No Barnaby on Sundays) ![]() ![]() Later in this second week the strip takes its first turn towards topicality, and firmly plants itself as taking place in a world that can permit both fairy godfathers and the domestic realities of wartime. We'll get into that tomorrow. (It turns out that finding complete archives of Cathy is harder than I thought. I'll keep poking around but going off of the early examples I saw it won't be a huge loss if it doesn't work out-- if it doesn't I might look into doing something like Dykes to Watch Out For instead)

amigolupus posted:Holy poo poo, how is Holbrook so bad with computers? The problem is that you're giving it way too much credit for intentionality and coherence. What happened here is that there were no problems with the code because the concept of autocorrection simply locked the concept of computer bugs in a literal cage. The vehicles of these particular metaphors are so far from their respective tenors that they can see the curvature of the Earth (figuratively).
