I AM NOT BEING PAID TO CORRECT OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS! DONKEY!!

In this installment of Keeping Up With the Joneses, it's interesting that Momand felt the need to toss in that explanatory note in the third panel. I'm not really sure what the "manicurists' ball" would be, aside from a ball held by manicurists... who I guess would have been young single women? But if it's inappropriate for a married man to go to such an event, then why would the barber have given him two tickets? And if it's not inappropriate, why wouldn't Clarice assume one of the tickets was for her?

Has anyone ever actually posted Terry and the Pirates in this thread?

I admit, I've always been a little curious about Terry and the Pirates because it's one of the big names from the age of classic adventure strips, but I've never seen any of it except for a few panels here and there. So, hey, let's check it out. Toss two cents to the newsboy and grab your copy of the October 22, 1934, New York Daily News for the very first strip...

Thunderchild edit was very nice.

In today's Corto Maltese: Corto pays a visit to the Sally Army, or Must be some grim stuff in the letter (also, Mania is a terrible name for a child, Louise), or I'm honestly thinking that all the villains in this story will end up killing each other before Corto even has a chance to meet them

Holbrook referencing COVID-19 while still trying to do his "haha my work environment is lovely and abusive" jokes blends into something really foul. It's bad enough that the boss is endangering their lives by forcing them to come work in her home, or how she's finding sadistic glee in how her employees don't look their best while working at home, now they're stuck working while knowing that their boss is getting hosed in the next room.

For as low effort as Working Daze or Intelligent Life gets with their own COVID strips, at least they have their characters actually stay safe at home.

Why is he even playing it up as a joke to his wife and child? They don't even know who or what Triton is, so what would they even find funny about this?

This poo poo is reminding me of Les Moore: A slimy rear end in a top hat making jokes that don't make any sense while his wife and child don't even get a say in anything.

Older Dick Tracy versus modern Dick Tracy is really a case study in how show don't tell shouldn't be interpreted as an absolute rule. Sure, half the comic in old Dick Tracy is just speech bubbles, but it's really easy to pick up pretty much any time you want because it's loaded with context. Whereas we can read modern Dick Tracy every day and still not have any drat idea what's going on because the minimalist dialog constantly abuses pronouns to make it unclear who is doing what and why.

What are Pitex-Materials? I've tried Googling it or checking if it's translated into anything, but I haven't seen any result so far. The warning sign that it's made of certain materials and that it's built on what looks to be a ditch makes me think this is Mämmilä's version of Groverhaus. :v:

Pitex is a fictional brand for what looks to me like asbestos/fibre cement tiles which were in fashion for facades in 1970s. The warning sign is because of construction work, the home extension has turned the whole lot into a warzone and trees have been felled, compare to the old photograph. The Pitex sign is not a warning, it's advertisement! Who wouldn't want a fire-safe, durable, economical asbestos cladding for their home? Or in Eino's case, interior ceilings too.

Ah, 70s construction, when everything is built to look kinda lovely and depressing.

I've read ahead in the first couple months of T&TP, and unfortunately that guy in the last panel isn't a one-off. He ends up tagging along with Terry and Pat as a bumbling, cowardly, English-butchering comedy relief sidekick. And there's only so far you can stretch "Well, it was a different time..."

I am baffled by the logic of which spices go in quotation marks and which ones don't. "Oh, good old turmeric, toss it in the basket. And keep an eye out for.... "cu....min"....?" Also this idea that the Luann household had zero spices sitting around. Including pepper.

What the drat rear end hell kind of stew is she making? I would also grouse about how stew meat is supposed to be cheap because that's the whole point of a stew, but I pay around five bucks a pound for stew beef. So maybe ten bucks seems like a lot if you're not used to buying meat?
