I thought the same thing when I was your age, kid. Velcro just didn't catch on like I expected.

It occurs to me that this is :goonsay: as gently caress, but I hated tying shoelaces so much that I just buy slip-ons. So don't worry kid, there's... I'm not going to say hope because, you know, you're gonna be a goon buying slip-ons, but there are options!

Edit: What a page snipe.

If it helps, I also buy slip-ons only because shoe tying is the worst. I feel like I've lost nothing in the loss of the shoelaces. Shoes don't fall off my feet or anything, who even invented shoelaces and for what purpose?

With most low-top shoes, you can tie the laces so that they work as slip-ons, other than you often have to hold the tongue as you slip them on. If you can't slip them on loosen the laces a bit; if they slip off tighten them; repeat until correct. My husband demands a no-shoe household and I'd hate to have to retie my shoes a half-dozen or more times a day.

A bunch near me are doing delivery only or in some cases curbside pickup. I'm reading more novels than I have since starting grad school just from getting stuff here and there from some of my favorites.

Anyway an extra Dykes to Watch Out For to celebrate me finishing scanning New, Improved! Dykes to Watch Out For and also for finally catching back up to the Essential's pace. Here's #55, from 1989:

Note Mo's face in the last two panels: not many fans know that during this time she was auditioning for a role in Funky Winkerbean that sadly failed to materialize.

When I want to relax, I read an essay by Engels. When I want something more serious, I read Corto Maltese.

Not that I'm complaining, but what's up with those ink effects? It looks almost like water damage, yet deliberate. It's pretty cool.

And from that cool art to a more-sadly-lacking-art-over-the-last-few-adventures in today's Corto Maltese: Alexander the Great nods approvingly, or Corto, I have some bad news about the 'stability' of the world in a decade or so..., or Corto starts the dreaded skeleton war a bit earlier than the rest of us
