And it's such a laugh riot telling cashiers that if something doesn't scan it must be free! Where's the sense of humor???

Lockhorns has been super duper good for a long time now. They didn't even make a thing out of it, and what with long-running zombie strips being what they are, they probably didn't need to. But! They're like the nega-A&J; a good, funny comic with actual effort put into the art, only the protagonists actively hate each other*.

* I subscribe to the theory that they actually are the best of friends and constantly rip on each other as an expression of intimacy.

Agreed, Lockhorns is something I look forward to reading. Great to see an old strip built on a really mid-late century premise shake that stale feeling (which it definitely was in the 00's when I was reading newspapers) and be a reliablly quality production.

According to the creators, the Lockhorn couple stays together because the sex is amazing.

I am positive I've seen some kind of raunchy Lockhorn art by Bill Hoest from the 60s or 70 but I am not having any luck turning it up at the moment.

"Broken more dishes than Nurmi has records" refers to famed Finnish distance runner Paavo Nurmi. I remember him being name-dropped in a Skippy strip several years back as well.

While the way Working Daze and Intelligent Life tackles COVID-19 and social distancing is lazy as hell, it's at least lazy in a way that you can easily ignore. But Holbrook gives the topic just enough thought that he brings it up in a way that's either stupidly annoying, or makes the setting even more hosed up (like Dethany's abusive boss forcing her to work from her boss' home).
