Dykes to Watch Out For #73 (1989)![]() ![]() El Salvador was in the news in late 1989 largely because of the murder of eight people, including six Jesuit priests, by soldiers in Salvadoran army on November 16. This was in the context of the El Salvadoran Civil War, and the official line was that the Jesuits were associated with a right-wing opposition group, the Farabundi Marti Nationa Liberation Front. The soldiers who committed the massacre were, unsurprisingly, members of a battalion created and trained by the U.S. Army's "School of the Americas," one of many acts of aid and support that the U.S. offered to the right-wing Salvadoran government. Interestingly enough this event and the media coverage it garnered also features heavily in Gilberto Hernandez' "Love and Rockets X," which ran from 1989 to 1992. Conan the Barbarian Apr. 2nd- Apr. 8th, 1979![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's unlikely they'd remember any "time-forgotten secrets" but possible. The time between the end of the Thurian Age of Kull and the Hyborian Age of Conan was pretty wild and not really a time of remembering culture and ancient secrets. As described by Yag-kosha in The Tower of the Elephant: "RE Howard, The Tower of the Elephant" posted:"We saw men grow from the ape and build the shining cities of Valusia, Kamelia, Commoria, and their sisters. We saw them reel before the thrusts of the heathen Atlanteans and Picts and Lemurians. We saw the oceans rise and engulf Atlantis and Lemuria, and the isles of the Picts, and the shining cities of civilization. We saw the survivors of Pictdom and Atlantis build their stone age empires, and go down to ruin, locked in bloody wars. We saw the Picts sink into abysmal savagery, the Atlanteans into apedom again. We saw new savages drift southward in conquering waves from the arctic circle to build a new civilization, with new kingdoms called Nemedia, and Koth, and Aquilonia and their sisters. We saw your people rise under a new name from the jungles of the apes that had been Atlanteans." ... It was 1932, people still hadn't figured out how evolution worked. catlord fucked around with this message at 22:54 on Jun 9, 2020 |
