Fort Knox is just I've never seen something so bland. It elicits absolutely no emotional or thought in me. It's the apartment beige of comic strips.

Strontium posted:Fort Knox What the gently caress, panel 3. Anyways, I kinda like this but that's mostly because we have pictures of my great-aunt doing a keg-stand at my cousin's wedding and it reminds me of that, rather than actually being good, but Fort Knox is generally so bad I'll take it.

Angular Cyrus posted:
That house could be my grandmother's house in Middle River, MD -- one day in the middle of a farm on a plot of land allotted to her by her farmer brother. He sells up, and her little farmhouse ended up surrounded by endless streets of rowhouses. Something similar happened to my parents -- when I was really tiny, we lived in a suburban neighbourhood, first owners of a split-level no-down-payment-to-veterans kind of place; they bought it in 1960 and were the first owners. My dad decided he wanted to move into the country, so in 1972, they got this neat little bungalow that was sat on the front five acres of what had been a huge farm. Farms all around us. My earliest memories of getting the mail meant going to this old lady's house because the post office was in her front room. It was all like something out of Walton's Mountain (aside from no mountains). One memorable day, my mom's fixing breakfast, looks out of the back door, and there's a cow on the porch looking back at her -- neighbour's cows were escape artists. It was a great place to grow up -- fields, woods to play in, and a big river running through the woods behind us. Turns out the reason the house was so cheaply priced and the owners so eager to sell was because the state highway dept was planning to put an enormous four lane clover-leaf intersection and bypass smack through the middle of what was my parents' living room. We ended up having to move, my parents having put a fuckton of work into the house and improving the property. Lesson: before you buy any lovely rural property, check with the state planning office to see what's been approved.
