Wikipedia says RIR creator Pat Brady is originally from Kentucky, graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and lives in New Jersey. I also found a 2000 interview where he said "Brooke McEldowney is doing fascinating art with '9 Chickweed Lane.'"

I will say it's kind of clever that Rae the Doe has anthropomorphic bats and moths and opossums as opposed to bears and cats and dogs, i.e. the marginalized and underrepresented cute animals.

Rae the Doe is fine. The gags haven't been very funny so far, but I like the art and there's a lot of potential. Many of those old strips are pretty good.
