The Indiana thug they're talking about was John Dillinger, and it looks like that escape happened just two months before that strip. It's interesting to me because I rarely think about how Dick Tracy is a product of its time; that there were actually gangsters running amok back then like in the strip. In fact, I just checked and Bonnie and Clyde were killed just a few days after these strips ran. Dillinger himself was killed a couple months later.
I like Monty (even the rich kid), but he's overdoing the German accent and it's reminding me of that stupid Rose Is Rose kid and I have a visceral negative reaction to anything that reminds me of that.

Oh gently caress.

In my heart I knew not to get my hopes up.

ETA: Jam tried to spin his firing as sort of a mutual thing, but if this is really Jam's last weekday strip then it's very telling that they clearly told him to GTFO and didn't even let him wrap up the storyline he was on or tie things up in any way. I mean, they let loving Gilchrist do a conclusion. Maybe this means they already have a new person picked out to continue the storyline? Or are they just going to end it mid-stream?

It happens with physical goods too. The guy behind Grey Goose vodka flat-out admits that all he did was put a perfectly ordinary drink into a nice-looking bottle and then jack the price tag way up, and it made him a couple billion dollars.

Thanks for the viewpoints on Murikka's nose situation!
