im pretty disheartened that so many people inexplicably leapt to such a bizarrely negative reading of what appeared to be a pretty straightforward comic
I think obviously the comic wasn't conveyed as clearly as it could have been, but I also find the pearl-clutching to the point of dropping Six Chix entirely overblown? Kind of makes me suspect some of the blow-back wasn't to the inaccurate anti-black reading but to a Black comic artist getting 'so political'.

I think it's overblown, but I suspect certain people get upset when any comic strip gets political, particularly if they disagree with the stance, and if you aren't someone like Pastis you're looking at some cancelled papers and angry syndicate suits calling you.

Right or wrong, some people consider the comics to be a safe space for some meaningless light entertainment, maybe something also for the kids to look at while they read the "real news" or whatever, and when it's not that, they don't appreciate it.

Ironically, your imagination went to a less sinister place than what the CIA is actually like! Also, I notice that Boondocks is also in reruns - did it really only run a couple years as a comic strip?

More than a couple but yeah its a lot less than you'd think given the reputation. Pretty nuts that it was the big strip twenty years ago but the idea of syndicating something like The Problem with Jamal in the present day is just totally wackadoodle.

Holbrook brings up that Tracy's just a hologram and then has him leave behind his wrist radio as an actual physical object. I hate every single thing about this stupid crossover.

This is just the start of the subplot with Bruno, and I have to say it loving sucks. We'll see it when we get there, but it's easily one of the worst things John Allison has written, IMO.

At first glance the flies seem to be just a harmless shorthand for saying the pig is stinky and poorly groomed like most stereotypically bad Internet people. But when you think about it, in context, Holbrook is actually being shockingly racist.

There's something really sad seeing Dusting offering a sincere compliment to his mom when his entire family spend all their time tearing him down and mocking him at every opportunity.

It seriously bothers me how Rudy's height hasn't changed at all since the beginning of Kevin & Kell, despite the fact that he's at least 18 by now. Hell, I can't even think of any teen character who got introduced over the years that ended up being taller than most of the adults.

Fixed that for you.

Lynn probably thought that the way Michael's begging his girlfriend not to show the letter to his parents is just standard teens-being-secretive, but it really just comes across as a poor kid desperate not to give his abuser any more ammunition to use against him.

My single pettiest complaint about Modern Family is that the oldest daughter is way improbably shorter than either of her parents, to the point I have to remind myself every time she's making out with her boyfriend onscreen that no, she's not actually supposed to be fourteen, my mind's just playing tricks on me.
