Mämmilä![]() Vice-judge, varatuomari, is a Finnish legal title used by Masters of Law who have gone through one year training period in court. It is not required for any state offices but in practice most applicants for positions like judge or prosecutor have it.

Uncle Max really comes off different as an adult than as a kid. I know that's also true just of Calvin and his parents in general but it hits different being able to think of him as someone who doesn't know Calvin instead of just someone Calvin doesn't know. I wasn't even a Calvin as a kid but just being able to empathize with the grown-up passage of time and living far away from people you love.

I don't know why Marianne (?) is just wearing like, a minidress. If I knew a fire was coming I'd at least get some shoes on and try to get to the car. I'm especially salty bc a while back I listened to a casefile episode about an australian wildfire and heard the accounts of the deaths of all 11? people who died in the fire and it was horrible, a lot of waiting to leave until it was too late, or trying to wait out the fire in a fireproof shelter but forgetting about the air... EDIT: Like, wildfires are horrible to be in the path of. You can't beat a wildfire with daring heroics at the eleventh hour, all you can do is evacuate, leave the stuff you can't grab fast to burn, and let the professionals with lots of water and fire safety suits to do their jobs. This is just Batuik getting wrapped up in cliche action movie heroics but it's irresponsible to portray wildfires this way, plus it makes the women in his strip look like idiots for not, at the very least, being ready to leave even if they only noticed the fire when it was in visible range of them. Plus, they have their own car. There is literally nothing Mason and Les can do to help them that they shouldn't have been able to do themselves. It's not unrealistic to have people rushing into dangerous situations illogically to try to help loved ones, but that's not heroic, either. I'm not going to lie, I have had to talk to friends a few times to calm down about this awful storyline. Why, yes, I do live in Southern California and have seen a wildfire burning under a mile away and closing in while volunteering at a smoke-choked evacuation shelter. Why do you ask?

B. Virtanen![]() These Summer holiday strips turned out to be way tougher to translate than usually. Finnish summer cottages tend to have outhouses in them, and it's quite common to use the manure from outhouses to fertilize plants around the cottages. I used to visit a place where the indoors toilet was a dry outhouse, too; apart from manure shoveling it was actually very pleasant and very environmentally-friendly. The game "Mölkky" is a classic Finnish summer cottage pastime; in it you throw a wooden log (the mölkky) towards wooden cylinders with numbers on them and score as many points as the cylinders you topple over, unless you hit exactly one of them in which case you get points according to the number written on it. The unpredictable bouncing pattern of the mölkky & the fact that you need to hit exactly 50 points to win and drop to either 0 or 25 if you go over make it a very funny chaotic pastime, although I've noted that with larger player groups people tend to lose interest before everyone finishes. As for the last strip, the exact translation would be "I'll be in beach fitness" -> "this is not a fitness beach", kinda. I hope this version worked well enough. ANSU ![]() ![]()

Some of the new stuff were originally just things from him messing around on his wacom (which is why they look a bit shaggy and off model).
