:same: I love A&J, but it can be tiring to have strips of them all the time.

I know she's talking about the bride getting embarrassed over laying a baby, but Kell bringing up eating while smiling at the egg makes it seem like she's planning to eat her secretary's newborn baby.

JJ did a whole thing on his blog the past few weeks about this, settling basically on

JJ posted:

... the thinly varnished human drama in Arlo & Janis mostly has befallen Gene, even going back years to when he was a rather young boy. I do know that is how I wound up with two strips on my hands, the main event featuring Arlo and Janis where humor is the emphasis, and the sideshow involving Gene and his family where sequential events are key. Fortunately for me, many readers seem to enjoy both treatments, but if pressed I think a majority would prefer one or the other. The Adventures of Gene (Let’s call them.) seem to have a particularly vociferous fan base. It is vociferous, because those fans don’t see much of their favorites, and they get restless. That’s understandable. One solution to this dilemma that often gets floated is a spin-off strip. It might surprise you to learn, I like this idea. I certainly have thought about it myself. The problem is, I don’t think I could pull it off. I probably would have to have some help, and I’ve always been a fiercely solitary act. I would not rule it out, though. With the constant shrinkage of the newspaper syndication business, it does seem prudent to take advantage of what has already been accomplished. I hope I have made myself clear.

iirc this is the second time we've chekced in on them during the pandemic, which also gave us a look at how mary lou's dad is doing with his hotel business. Guessing we'll swing back around to how he's doing at the end of this call.

As the exact target (And sometimes subject) of this strip, this one gave me a good HA!

It's a bit inside baseball, but the inventory companies are exactly as lovely as they're shown here, if not worse. One of the big ones is RGIS (pronounced like Regis Philbin's first name)
Feuti calling it EGRGIS really tickled me

I didn't get that but I enjoyed the pot joke. Now adding that layer, that's a drat good strip.

HOLY FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I mean, in today's Corto Maltese: Corto is extremely dismissive of the Socratic method, or Corto has a bad case of helmet-hair, or 'Oh no, no but it wasn't a dream! You were there! And you... and you!'

If you don't know what you're looking for desert floods can easily ambush you. The strip's absolutely right -- hard-baked ground doesn't absorb much water and there's not much plantlife to slow it down so storm runoff flows fast enough to flood areas that are bone dry overhead. Growing up we were taught to watch the horizon and err on the safe side around arroyos and you'd get a bodycount on the news during monsoon season, daring footage of survivor rescues if you were lucky.

The rest of it, yeah, Giles has the danger sense of a sheltered kitten.

First appearance of Uolevi Raunio, the guy who replaced Heimo. And again with the titles, Isopaljo actually calls him diplomi-insinööri (lit. diploma-engineer), Finnish equivalent of a Master of Science in Engineering.

Also his last name, Raunio, literally means "ruin".
