No. Both Funky and Crankshaft take place in the present day, even though one is 10 years ahead of the other. It makes perfect sense, honest.

Yeah, it sets up a whole implied joke about the psychic making excuses for her bad behavior. And Bechdel puts in that joke very smoothly - Sparrow's advice is pretty reasonable for her, and then Ginger provides the expositional setup while arguing with her (appropriately), and then Bechdel returns to the plotline by having Sparrow stick to her not-entirely-unreasonable guns.

There are a LOT of strips that could learn about exposition and setup from this.

I only have excellent ideas
TBF Bechdel had the benefit of having the equivalent of a Sunday strip every single time and also didn't need to churn something out every week let alone every single day. I also think of Howard Cruse ditching Wendel rather than reshaping it into a 4-panel gag strip and only coming back when offered a really luxurious amount of space to make the drawings pop and let the narrative take its time.

Casually outing a trans person(Holbrook uses this metaphor a lot but in this case he actually is intending this to be a metaphor for trans people) is pretty hosed up, yes. There's not even a reason to bring it up, it's just offered up for shits and giggles(not that it'd be any better if there was a reason for it, to be clear).

Now that Mark doesn't tuck in his shirt, someone else had to. Balance is preserved.

I might have the wrong comic series entirely, but hopefully someone remembers having read it. It would be from when I still read newspaper comics so at least a decade or two ago.

I think it's a Doonesbury strip, or maybe Bloom County, with one character sitting in front of a TV. The TV says something along the lines of "Stop watching. Get up. Turn this off. Go outside. Get some exercise." She starts getting up and leaving, for a panel or two. Then it says "Just kidding!" and she says something like "I kinda figured."

Anyone know the date, or exact quotes from it so I can search for it properly?

I don't remember the exact quote, but I seem to remember a Garfield strip along those lines.

The Larssons are back in the comic. There have been bunch mentions in the book (including two full chapters, when Bernhard Bertelsköld visited them), but the comic removed most of those for some reason.

They are supposed to represent the bourgeois and peasantry (while the Bertelskölds are the aristocracy) and there's always mentions how the families are feuding, but honestly they seem to be quite respectful to each other whenever they meet.
