It's basically a repeat of what happened between Wilbur and Estelle from last year, where Wilbur acted like a jealous rear end in a top hat in that double date but we're then told that Wilbur's actual problem lies with his drinking problem.

First of all: Fiona that's an extremely lovely thing you did. Like, in the scale of horrible things, this is really up there. Second: stud fees??? Like, what??? I think this is the only time it's mentioned in the strip, and that's a good thing, because yikes. Third: this set of strips gives up a good reference point for Vin's age. He apparently can drive, so he's 16 at least; and he got a college scholarship, so that would make him 17-18: he's about to start his final year of high school. (That he already got a collage scholarship makes sense, because as we'll see in later strips, Vin is really smart. Like, kid got some serious brains.) Fiona is 13, 14 at best. She, along with Rudy (and Bruno, and Corrie), will be starting high school in the next few weeks. Which means that the whole arc we had? With Vin macking on Fiona? That was a high school junior putting the moves on a girl in her final year of junior high. Which I don't know if it's illegal or not, but is still quite a big yikes if you ask me. Alright, rant is over. You may resume your comic strip posting.

Jules has stated multiple times that the plan (with the editors' blessing) is to try to pick up new webcomic-audience readers with the logic that most of the oldheads will still stick around to complain. Not sure if it'll work or if it's a good strategy, but there is a strategy there, I guess.

Horace posted:You can just call it Nancying. Retaining a portion of your readership by deliberately annoying them into commenting seems like a more specific variant of social media's general "get clicks by riling people up" strategy. A comic needs more to be good than just to own the cons. It's early days yet and I don't want to judge, but so far Mark Trail has come up with, in my view, dodgy art and the seeds of a dark past plot that seems a bit generic, and I fear that it's wasting its potential. Nancy is doing fun gags and clever visual stuff on top of being modern.

Vintage Valiant (Feb. 01, 1942)![]() ![]() Well, here we are. We've met a few extras here and there who were clearly African, but this is our first encounter with sub-Saharan African people in their native lands. As I said, I don't know what the material culture of this region was like in the mid fifth century, but some quick research suggests that there could have been an active gold trade and several built up towns or cities, which isn't what we're getting. I don't think this is terribly offensive, just disappointing in a predictable way. I'm mostly put off by the greyish color Foster chose to use for their skin.
