I know Holbrook operates on a different plane of logic to us mortals, but this is so dumb.
I'm not exactly familiar with 'draft' terminology (basketball?), but it seems to me like he wants to lose to have a better chance at drafting more talented people?

If any one single, or group of talented people pop into a situation like this, they'll either get dragged down by the lovely, no morale and no skill team and give up.
Or do like the rhino is doing, and try to whip things into shape.

Then again I don't entirely understand what this even means, is he just granted pick of the litter of new 'pro' level farmers, if his team is doing poorly?
Surely this wouldn't expand far enough for him to be able to just pick up a good team all at once, and instead he'd just be getting a few possible applicants.
And surely they'd go 'oh this lovely team hasn't won in a decade, and they have 0 interest or enthusiasm, I'm out of here.' much like the rhino?

I know trying to understand Holbrook is utter folly, but still.

the team with the worst record gets the highest draft pick so you have a chance to get better players like that

I don't know if any teams actually do this but fans talk about it as a legit strategy all the time

The Philadelphia 76ers have all but admitted to doing this for nearly a decade until they scraped together a decent team recently.

This is 100% a thing that happens in leagues with entry drafts. The thinking goes if you aren't in a position to win the title you might as well be real bad so you're in position to draft the best possible players.

Bit off-topic, but have Holbrook and Ken Penders even been seen in the same room together? Because I've been reading a breakdown of his Sonic comics and they have very similar ways of loving up metaphors (And they're both insane furries).

What's really dumb to me about this is that Holbrook started writing it as a story about racism, with teams not picking Carl the rhino for dating a predator, but this sudden swerve into this draft picks makes it look like Holbrook got bored partway through. I don't think Holbrook realizes it's a bad look to make the non-racist team who took on Carl be a team of losers with a corrupt coach.

My guess is that Holbrook will try and go for some lesson about people turning out to be great if only someone stepped up and gave them motivation. But it's Holbrook, so there's going to be some new and hosed up implications to make the entire thing a big, wet fart. The coach will probably be murdered and eaten, or be demoted to manure duty or something.

From what I gather in the previous thread, Holbrook seems to be a generally good guy that just happens to write some incredibly stupid poo poo, and also loves his pregnancy storylines. Penders is just a terrible person through and through with delusions of grandeur.

Isn't like Crystal would have to do much beyond show up for a paycheck. This is a chain store, so a Liquidation company will come in, ship all the good poo poo to the better stores, while all the garbage gets sent there for the sale., while also jacking the price up on everything.
If you're lucky, you can pick up some fixtures cheap on the last day or two.

Yeah, Holbrook isn't a skeeze whereas Penders has thought in detail how a 16 year old lost her virginity to a man who's probably ten years her senior.

Huh, this seems like kind of a big moment, a huge leap for a character. Let's see what set this in motion, what happened yesterday...

Oh, this is just a completely random bit of forced development with absolutely no lead-up and it will never be mentioned again. Like the Dreamers that Tia Carmen is (still?) hiding in their attic.

Also, I went back and looked at the past week of strips, he's not even wearing a ring.

Hey, there's this newish comic by Ellis Rosin called Junk Drawer I don't think we've had in here before. I don't know if it's good. GoComics recommended it to me as something it thinks I would like, but then GoComics thinks I like Luann and Intelligent Life. So who knows!

Anyway it posts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I may or may not start posting it depending on if I like it/feel like it/remember to. Tell me what you think. Here's this week so far:
