neither am i, but for some people it really really clicks even though they are not programmers at all. you don't need to know any of that monad poo poo either, i tried to do a couple of tracks with it but i am more of a a hands on player

this is ideal for sitting hung over on a sofa and just coding up some ambient tunes on your big PA system or something

i know one guy who discovered tidal and is now selling all his hardware gear because he is so happy working with code now

I gently caress around with bonzomatic which does live visualization programming, but yea.... I'm trying to turn my brain off when I make music and that means muscle memory for music not thinky memory for typing

I got my jazzmaster today and holy poo poo it's great. I was kind of expecting to be disappointed because I'm not exactly playing above what my ESP can handle - I just wanted the dang thing. it's really a joy to play and I couldn't be happier

the other part of my bonus went on another pocket operator, the Office. it came broken from amazon so I'm returning it, the replacement should arrive Monday

I've been playing around with bitwig studio and it's pretty great. Like Ableton, but designed with a lot of modular synthesizer principles. Like instead of drawing out an automation curve for the volume of your high hats you can just throw an lfo on there.

yeah you can do it in any daw, but let's be honest, the way the ui is designed will always shape what solutions do you reach out first when producing and influence your sound
I hate that the ccs aren't one-click in bitwig, but that's not the workflow they want to imprint

my main problem with the $5,000 eurorack setups is never have i once ever seen a video or heard a song where anybody is doing anything but making random arpeggiated doodles and beep boops with no rhythm or backing tracks. i'm sure its fun to twiddle the knobs but its just a more expensive update of the old 'circuit bent' aesthetic.

it all opens up when the sequencing hits

what are some good monitor headphones that can help me hear what a song actually sounds like?

I’ve been working on a track for a week or so now and for the first time played it in my car as a test, where I promptly realized that the hats were up way too high and the snare had some metallic twang in it that I hated and had never heard until that moment. it was then I realized that my current headphones are really cutting the high end out and to make the track sound good on them I have to make it sound like crap in systems that can actually reproduce the highs

People talk poo poo about Superlux highs but they're really good at making you tame the cymbals :v: I've used the HD668b for years, it takes a while to understand their quirks but they're real detailed

well why not

got some singing bowls coming this week as a bday gift from me to me, gonna make me some drones

dont imagine they're all in tune or anything tho, but maybe i can experiment with each one individually

like what if i fill one with water, or put a marble in. can i turn one into a hosed up plate reverb?

what if i record at 192khz and change the sample rate to 48k to lower the tone two octaves

edit: oh, and what if i put one bowl in another, will there be any sympathetic resonance?

Run the recordings through Paulstretch at absurd slowdown rates. Does a bowl resonate in a bathtub? What if you spin one in a bathtub? Inquiring minds and all that.

Tap them with a stick, record the the output (preferably with a contact mic!) and then use that as an impulse response for crazy sort of harmonic reverbs!

(if you use Logic Pro, it comes with a tool for doing this more accurately with sine-sweeps and stuff)

cheapo option is try something like this with a pair of headphones that they have a profile for https://www.sonarworks.com/reference

i use a pair of beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohm and even though i dont use that software it has been on my buy list for some time. the headphones are really nice and i bought a second pair after i wore through the first

this sort of stuff never goes away though. my fix is not to own a car
