Here's a stupid hardware/guitar jam video I just made. I found the incense burner in a thrift store a few months ago. I was hoping the cat would show up, but she was sleeping somewhere else.

I couldn't sleep last night, so I decided to finally figure out how to record and mix stuff on my ancient Tascam 6 track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMJSg6nfE1k

I can take it into the forest nearby and do something with that Casio SA-11 someone gave me years ago. (I think they sold for like $50 in the 80s)

hey thanks for bumping in this thread.

today was more or less a disaster though, since my streaming mate had his hard drive blow up so he had to cancel at the last minute, and then when i decided to go solo ableton live crashed around 15 minutes in. the last 1h i think came out well though

e: next week i will sort out my new desk situation, so things will hopefully be better

Oh no! The time I was watching went OK. I tried to jam along with a bass and guitar, but I just couldn't get it to work for some reason. :(

just before I was playing some open filter saw waves on my hydra synth (like the low c-c octave chord at the start of van halen’s jump) and then the same on the minitaur and poo poo I can vibe to that alone

No mainly putting it through just a truly filthy amount of distortion and ripping in flames riffs. Also eyeing a midi controller version for practice, might set that up so each string is a pitch corrected sample of me screaming or like a buzzsaw or something. Or just make some virus patches that'd probably be the most musically interesting option.

i’m looking at buying a smallish amp for my 14yo for xmas

had in mind a modelling amp, something big enough that he could use it to jam with someone ever

i’ll be watching and reading reviews

but does anyone have any like, advice? pitfalls to watch out for?

[ASK] me about OS/2 WARP
modeling stuff in small packages is worthless as you need a cab to let a marshall sim sound like a marshall

the yamaha thr30 is good for low volume/chill setups

probably gets loud enough for teen garage band stuff too

check out the Fender Champion 20. retails for $129 USD. i found a used one for a good deal ($50) recently, and gifted it to a friend as a part of their beginner’s electric guitar setup.

it’s a great first amp:
- lots of variety with the built-in amp models and effects
- quiet enough for bedroom practice
- loud enough for inside jams
- relatively small and portable
- honestly sounds pretty good (for the price)

obviously you could spend a lot more on an amp, but if he’s 14 and just starting out it really doesn’t have to sound perfect. it just needs to be loud and look cool. rock and roll baby :)

I went into music store today to have a bit of a browse and kinda concluded yeah for his first amp I should keep it minimal

Don't you just hate when you wind up in a store with people who are in a socioeconomic class that is pretty obviously about two levels lower than your own?
also when it comes to rock & roll there’s almost an honor in having used gear, your Aotearoa dollars will go much further if you find something using your local equivalent of Craigslist and it might have a cool story or two in its history

[ASK] me about OS/2 WARP
the only stuff i buy new is either unobtainium used, or mispriced on some weird blowout

last new grab was when sweetwater was blowing out the vox mv50 with a cab for $149 USD. 50 watts, tiny little tube in the preamp. really fun to mess with and it's easy to move around.

i was trying to find a song my brother posted on soundcloud and stumbled upon this old cover i did of one of my friend's (now wife's) acoustic guitar songs and it kinda slaps (aside from the fact that i wouldn't have access to speakers that could produce non-muddy bass for another decade so the lower register is 100% absent): https://www.whyp.it/tracks/114272/why

it does slap

probably the only thing i would try to do is make it a little bit sparser at times, right now it's like a lot of things are going on all the time so it kind of overloads my brain (but i am tired af too)
