Bloody posted:hospital overwhelmed is gonna spike unrelated deaths too like heart attacks and strokes and poo poo not to be all gloomy... things are going to be fine! however Crusader posted:another "we're about to get wrecked" article: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/coronavirus-may-make-millions-of-americans-sick-but-we-only-have-about-100000-ventilators/ looks like we may have about ~1000 or so people who need hospitalization for every bed available. quote:Let’s do some fuzzy math. The population of Hennepin County is 1.25 million. Experts have said somewhere between 20 to 60 percent of Americans are likely to contract COVID-19. That won’t be evenly distributed across the country. But for the purposes of this thought experiment, let’s say 20 percent of Hennepin County residents get COVID-19 and, as in the Chinese study, 19 percent are severe or critical cases and would require hospitalization. That’s 47,000 people. On a given day, Hennepin Healthcare’s hospital network might have 21 empty beds. The Hennepin Healthcare network doesn’t include all the hospitals in Hennepin County, but it’s unlikely that other facilities have way more extra beds sitting around. i can't even imagine what it's like for doctors and aprns to have to decide, okay i have 20 patients and 3 ventilators, who has a family? who seems healthier? because people couldn't stop going out to bars. hard to believe there's a political schism over whether to take it seriously

just got off the phone with my dad. his quote, 'the history books will look back at this in the same light as h. g. wells 'war of the worlds'. biggest unnecessary panic ever' fortunately they're out in the middle of nowhere and hate crowds anyways. he told me that if everyone would just listen to the cdc and who then we'd all be fine. i was going to point out that both entities are telling people to shelter in place but gently caress it

I'm on the second wave list for being sent home from work (probably be stepped up now that boris has decided to shut the country down or whatever) which I don't really mind about but people in the first wave were going "oh I only have a 13 inch laptop this is going to be really hard" and juts drat how do these people even use something like that. I've got dual 27 inch wide screen monitors because I'm a turbo nerd, allowing me to have one on yospos at all times
