I still think that if you listen to an alt-right shithead spouting nonsense and a far left socialist speaking universally known but unsaid truths and you come away liking the alt-right more, you’re already an irredeemable fuckhead. joe Rogan is actually impartial because he is incapable of not being that way due to brain damage and drugs.

I liked rogan's interview with james hetfield from metallica because hetfield got totally fuckin sober in the early 2000s (and even goes back into rehab voluntarily if he feels it coming back to him) and watching rogan try to parse the totally happy experiences of someone who's 100% drug and alcohol free and committed to it is like watching someone realize that capitalists aren't your friend at the same time as they're learning that santa isn't real and there is a word for that feeling you have after you wake up night after night from having dreams in which you're inexplicably a girl

my level of panic is like 90 degrees out of phase with the general public. last week I was super worried and getting more worried quickly, while most people didn't give a gently caress yet. now everyone's panic seems to be escalating and personally it now seems like it won't be that bad overall.

the grocery stores here are pretty much flat out of non-perishables. I've done all I can, time to ride out the next couple months and take solace in the fact that, worst case scenario, my country has a functioning healthcare system and even if I'm in triage for 24 hours, I won't get a bill for it que sera sera

so this economy now has this huge swath of people getting laid off soon or no work to do and this other swath of people who work in virus-affected sectors who are completely swamped and understaffed (anything to do with health care, logistics, delivery, etc) and we're def in a recession (though it's not official until retrospectively looking back 2 quarters later) computer touching is somewhere in both worlds, some firms are gonna layoff and some firms are super-well positioned (eg those working in home delivery or teleconference stuff)

Everybody has to go through a process to assimilate what's happening. The more aware you were about covid I think the earlier you got your panic attacks done with. Most people still have a long way to go.

There was a tradition of passing it on to whoever caused a big outage but I decided to just leave it on display instead (some people might not take it in stride) five years of this and now I'm the senior person on the team

our HR department has really ramped up their workplace morale efforts, which i suppose is a nice idea, but i'm just finding them patronizing and sanctimonious and have really started to disengage from their programs. the work itself is still fine, is secure for the short term and i like my colleagues so i'm pretty lucky overall i guess.
