I also do this.

Do you hear me, corporate security? I do not have a bunch of work equipment in my home office. Don’t bother looking.

when Uber bought Postmates and I decided to leave and never work there, I returned all my Postmates equipment, including the unopened Uber laptop they had sent me via a printed label they had emailed.

They then proceeded to keep sending me extra empty laptop shipping boxes for weeks. The first two I thought were just errors because I had sent them two laptops in original boxes and I assumed it was automatic, but by the time they sent the third box I was no longer in possession of anything and my accounts were disabled so I had to ask friends who still worked there for the private support addresses to which I sent email hoping it would open tickets where they'd know to please not send me laptop boxes anymore, which ultimately worked.

you show up in person and demand your stuff back if they're local and want to be the next youtube superstar or you just write it off. i guess you could call their local law enforcement and report it as theft if you're okay seeing them shot to death but that seems a little much.

I assumed most places hold final cheque until equipment is returned

MononcQc
May 29, 2007

a lot of places have both equipment and salaries handled by different departments, possibly different contracting companies, and may not have the coordination required to do that.

So I grabbed a decibel meter, measured the thing, and reply-all'd asking where I could find my OSHA-required ear protection during work hours as I'm concerned about the company's potential liability

It got immediately moved and that was the last I heard of it

lol today it was revealed that the galaxy brain return to office is pushed from global management and i guess that explains all the blitzkrieg of new rules and technically accepting feedback but ignoring it

which also is a nice reality check into a c level mind, so congrats

my last boss liked to schedule meetings at 11:45 am because everyone’s calendar was always free then and technically you might be able to finish by lunchtime! (you wont)

being in central time working with lots of eastern time people leads to central time people scheduling something at 11 AM central to get it done right before lunch, eastern time people scheduling something at 1 PM eastern to get on it right after lunch, and me having meetings all through lunch lol

MononcQc
May 29, 2007

I just say "this is after hours" and refuse the meeting. Not my problem at that point. I'll sometimes extend it if it's something very important and time-sensitive, but it's a rare thing.

This is why I scheduled a recurring meeting on my calendar at that time with the topic "research and development sync meeting"

people still scheduled meetings in that timeframe :(

ya. apparently you get to a point where you and everyone you might want to meet with is solid red on the availability checker so you just yeet an invite out and let everyone counter to try to find the one spot where everyone's other meeting is skippable. glad i'm not at that point (yet)

MononcQc
May 29, 2007

we use Clockwise for a lot of meetings, where you define the big chunk of times you'd like free and your working hours, and then you give it permission to re-schedule a bunch of poo poo and it will automatically try to shuffle the schedules of all allowed meetings for all allowed participants to bin pack everyone's meetings into as few blocks as possible. It works pretty well and now I have a bunch of "meeting afternoons" where all meetings go and a bunch of free hours put together at other times.

i won my last office trivia thing which had a $50 gift certificate prize, and so I asked for one to costco lmao. it's been this 4 month saga though because a gift certificate to costco is counted as cash for government contractors (where as one to denny's wouldn't be lol) so i had to give it back and some weird bonus handling company had to send me just a check for $50 instead so that it was legal.
