Magical sex ed class just consists of them saying that women using love potions on men doesn't count as rape. Seriously, it's wild how Dumbledore tries so hard to make Harry feel sympathetic to Voldemort's mom because she loved Riddle Sr. so much, and Riddle Sr. was a dick for kicking her out and going back to his parents unable to explain why the gently caress he did what he did.

A good writer might have made that a deliberate point about Harry losing the perspective of being raised in a non-magical environment, but we all know that's not the case with Rowling. Boy raised in a toxic environment becomes a toxic rear end in a top hat. Again, Rowling created a world class masterpiece entirely by accident.

Turns out the vast majority of the UK want politicians to shut the gently caress up about trans people. https://x.com/NeilMackay/status/1806707823323038114 quote:More in Common’s UK director Luke Tryl said: “Interestingly debates about transgender people were the only issue where more said it was talked about too much than too little.” Apparently the most voters care more about cost of living, healthcare, immigration, taxes, pensions and literally anything else than they do about who uses which bathroom. quote:The poll listed ‘other issues’ as scoring 4%, and at the bottom of the list came ‘the debate about transgender people’ on 2%. To get this back to making GBS threads on the Harry Potter books and not just reposting transphobia, I'm reading Strange Academy, a Marvel comic about a magic school started by Dr Strange and follows the students, and they have a class list at the end of the first issue, and holy poo poo, it includes classes you would want young people to take if they were meant to become functional adults. P.E. Actual math and history, microeconomics, anatomy, home economics. I mean, they often have a spooky twist, but they do include poo poo that you would expect students to learn.

Rowling has bad views on rape, exhibit #94: ![]() https://x.com/soozuk/status/1806735717118177703?s=46 I saw a brilliant tweet in someone else’s replies saying “calling Lolita a romance novel is like calling It a dinner menu”. Well, I remember there being a time when I didn't actually think further on what a story told beyond how it was presented by the P.O.V. person... ...but that was when I was a very young teenager, and hadn't understood the implication of the ending of to Kill a Mockingbird until it was distinctly spelled out to me.

Pththya-lyi posted:Well that puts all the age gap romances in Harry Potter in an interesting context Is there much age gap romance in Harry Potter outside of Tonks and Lupin who are early 20s/mid 30s? Fleur and Bill are about 5 years apart and are a bit sketchy since they start dating at 18/23ish and I think literally every other couple we see are within 3 years. Even outside the main story I think the only real age gap is McGonagall's insane backstory on Pottermore. Rowling's relationships are usually problematic for a whole host of other reasons. But people are usually marrying and dating people of roughly their age.
