I don't understand what is particularly scummy about that. Like, yeah, it's scummy to namedrop Rowling and be going on with this project at all, sure, but I mean any studio scummy enough to be doing this project would do the same. Like maybe it's because I'm tired and have a headache, but I don't see Zaslav there saying or doing anything any other suit in his position would not be saying and doing? It's all boilerplate "we have faith in this project and believe it is what audiences want and are excited for it!" poo poo. Just made scummy by the fact it's in service to the arch-transphobe.

Yeah, I don't particularly blame anyone in the Fantastic Beasts for taking the role. I assume the contracts for those included an agreement to do multiple films and when they likely signed them she hadn't gone full mask off. But anyone signing up for this (aside from the literal 10 year olds they'll likely hire for the main roles) has no excuse for not knowing.

Like, remember at the end of Book 4 when Barty Crouch got his loving immortal soul eaten and permanently destroyed by a demon within about an hour of being arrested, without even the formality of a quick show-trial, because the Minister of Magic signed off on it? Like summary execution of someone's numinous eternal part is just an authority he has that nobody really questions that much? Wizard Society is unspeakably evil in a way no real-world regime could ever aspire to be

As I love pointing out: Harry literally notes and the text points out how insanely racist the statue in the Ministry is even before Voldemort takes over. It's part of how/why it's such brilliant - unintentional - political satire. She goes out of her way in the text to show us that the problems are systemic and Voldemort is not a cause of anything, merely the latest symptom of a broken system, and then in the end ignores all of it because Noseless Man has been defeated so the day is saved! Like it's loving peak satire that the Ministry before and after a fascist takeover is barely different. Wizarding life in general continues on like normal.

I mean to be perfectly fair he does think about this exact fact and it causes him some unease but thinking about it more he decides that what an Auror does is everything he has been doing throughout his school career to resist Voldemort and he would like to continue fighting dark wizards. Now, he doesn't do anything like talk this over with a therapist or counselor or anything. My guess is Rowling is probably anti-psychotherapy, presumably because there is a risk of them trying to trans you.
