We just finished Aspen last night and who the hell doesn't just shoot Vic in the head? We were amazed they made him a playable character because from his first radio broadcast we wanted to shoot him It just seems wild that it's even an option.

It worked that way for some robots in a hallway, so I guess I thought it synergized with the level 10 stealth perk more. Yeah I thought the same thing at first, it’s unnecessarily confusing. They really should’ve just called it overwatch like every other game of this type.

Yeah they probably should have.AutismVaccine posted:you can save scum your mercs to a ridicolous level with mutations. Just drive in cloud until you get a good one, then go heal up again and save. And so on. I had all my chars on almost max mutations, but somewhere there was a forced being healed sequence, that removed all the buffs. I need to check that for my next play through, maybe it is possible to avoid getting auto doctored. I think they patched it in so only no-glo removes mutations. Not sure. There is also the "I'm terrible and want a psycho on my team since the decent guys will all leave me" playthrough. Statwise he's fairly decent but I'm with you that almost nobody would keep him alive. Say what you will about Ironclad Cordite but at least he has an ethos. Have they ever mentioned DLC?

I had Vic on my team. He was somewhat entertaining. But nowhere close to Ertan from W2 in the laugh category.

Does someone know what mods are unique per playthrough? We thought we unlocked the last tier of weapons after getting the second kid, so used our good mods up, and then like 20 minutes later we got another radio call that there were new weapons available at HQ--horrendous signaling. Specifically, the +9m, -5% critical chance and the -1 AP magazine are the ones I'd like to now have on my level 23 handgun. Really disappointed with how you can't remove mods, because I feel like I put two unique ones on a level 19 handgun now and our latest hard save was several combats behind. Oh, and we lost Billy and Jean because we swapped out that character to get the modding ranger...just really loving annoyed about it all around, the amount of missing polish really sucks. Like, if you're going to lose your pet forever, at least have a pop up warning you that that will be the consequence. That would have changed how we handled it. Instead, when I got her back in my party, she still had the pet icon but the pet wasn't on screen and then eventually the icon went away too. Anyway, are those mods possible to get from field stripping? Or if not, what IS possible to get from field stripping, to figure out if it's even worth save scumming through that system to get some kind of mods for my gun?

A Strange Aeon posted:Does someone know what mods are unique per playthrough? Don't know about unique mods but I did field strip a ton. Completely random. Sometimes I got nothing and other times I got some gold among the dross. 100% roll of the dice as I made the mistake of NOT save scumming and regretted it. I have managed to get rare mods like the one that adds to damage while turning your cone into a stream, energy damage conversion mod and one other that I remember being insane but only saw the once. I am 100% with you on being able to remove mods, both armour and weapon. Your only hope for mods are either strip/perk roulette or inventory glitch from the OP. Inventory glitch, if it hasn't been "fixed", was emptying out the merchants inventory completely, saving then reloading the save. Whatever mods he carried are back. Would feel cheap but without the ability to remove mods you have little choice as most of the high level armour mods are bollocks. The +1 quick slot leg mod was my go to for all my bot and turret tossers. Colostomy Bag posted:I had Vic on my team. He was somewhat entertaining. We ended up redoing from the old save to avoid losing Billy and Jean and the unique mods. It wasn't too painful but still a dumb design decision full stop! Assuming we have the Eliminator and Man Cannon available at HQ, are those the final tier of weapons and can we mod them without finding another weapon tier an hour later?

drat, I just beat the game and after not being able to finish WL2 I gotta say this might be the best sequel to a game I've ever seen, improvements wise. Pretty much everything I had an issue in WL2 was improved to a ridiculous degree here. I waited a bit until the performance issues that annoyed me were gone I'm really glad I did. Building chars was super fun and varied, Every single one of my characters was super unique and fun to use. The last tier of weapons were so absurdly ridiculous. The last fight got a bit anticlimactic because the sniper rail gun one shot the last boss and 2 of the mobs in the first round. It was annoying how pistols were weak-ish until the very late game where they got absurdly strong with the proper mods and skills. Weird science puncher was clearing entire encounters by himself. Combat was so fun I ended up doing a major chaos playthrough because I didn't want to avoid a single fight and I wanted to fight against all factions. I love how the game still has a few bugs, but pretty much all of them were in my favor. My nerdy/mech/science melee char had 0 melee weapon skill, but with the reckless strike bug (not hurting yourself when you use it) I had a buffed AOE melee attack with 100% hit chance. I paired that with the bug that let you use weapon talents from your off hand weapon and just blew everything up. Short list of end tier SMGs: PDW-01, Ripper AR: (don't use as weaker than SMG) Lancer and Socom (I think as ARs suck) Brawing: Power Fist or Plasma Fist Big Guns: Minigun. Minigun is king. Blade: Chainsword Blunt: Plasma Hammer or Hydraulic Hammer Flamer: Incinerator Pistol: Man Cannon or Retirer Shotgun: Jackhammer Sniper: Eliminator Explosives: Stinger or Mini Nuke End game armour :Power Armour or the couple of quest only ones you see at Aspen or after. I still like giving my melee guy Exoskeleton Armour. If I had a wish list of things to add or tweak: Ability to remove both weapon and armour mods into inventory so you could reuse. Buff flame weapons. Add more flame weapons (both the flame AR style and the reg). Felt like most of the mid and towards the end tier game flamethrowers were weak as hell. Maybe add more debuffs to flame weapons. More time to enjoy end tier vehicle mods, weapons and armour Rez pets so I can enjoy Polly more nerdz posted:drat, I just beat the game and after not being able to finish WL2 I gotta say this might be the best sequel to a game I've ever seen, improvements wise. Not being able to freely swap mods is like the one thing that super annoys me. Overall the game rules and I want more of it. I liked WL2 but it's SO rough compared to 3 it's crazy lol

I hated WL2 and almost didn’t buy 3 because of it. The fact this game isn’t just an improvement but actually fantastic shocked the hell out of me.

Better mods, more care given to pets, a loving combat log, a second pass at the perks because so many of them were just meh and didn't really entice me at all to spend the skill points when it just means plus 3 percent to hit or whatever. I want to be excited to choose a perk like in Fallout, here I just hung onto the points sometimes until finally just picking something. But it's been very fun playing coop with my friend, there's so few similar games that it makes up for the shortcomings and myriads of bugs we've run into.

I don't quite get the take that WL2 was awful in comparison--my memories of it are that it wasn't nearly as buggy, but I got into it with the complete edition or whatever. I do recall using a guide to build my characters because I'd heard you could really trap yourself.

WL2 on release was awful. It got slightly better over time but between the writing and the character system, it was never more than an ehhhhh for me. WL3 by contrast was fun to play even with release bugs and a vast improvement in every way.

Then one day discovered I should have had both lock picking and safe cracking skills on the same character. ![]() Another thing I found funny with the latest WL3 patch was they actually show your downed characters from area to area. When I first started playing I was confused on where the hell they were, if I should be doing something different with them...and then was surprised when they magically appeared when I first visited the doc.

W2 had a ton of hype and the release was underwhelming, it got better over time with the Director's Cut, but the developers tried a little TOO hard to make it like a retro game, with all the different skills, the character stats, etc. I still enjoyed, but haven't played it in years.

I had a run-destroying bug hit me about halfway through Wasteland 2 and I could never dredge up the desire to play it again after that. Wasteland 3 by comparison has been pretty fantastic, even if it needs a bit of work in places.

WL2 had a terribly boring questline where you do some radio tower poo poo and then you do it again somewhere else, weapons were bland as hell, the hacking/lockpicking skills were a nightmare, the random loot was way too random to the point where unlocking a max skill chest or just digging up dirt could end up with the same stuff. Also random enough that you could go on such a long string of bad luck that you'd completely run out of certain ammo types or weapon upgrades for a long time. WL3 has way more interesting factions, more varied objectives, a ton of new and fun weapons/equipment with more consistent ways to get them and a much better perk and skills system. Like I said they took every single issue I had with wasteland 2 and improved on it to an amazing degree.

I started 3 years after release with the Directors edition or whatever it's called I honestly dug the setting for Wasteland 2, it was like the old Fallouts but with the goofiness toned down. Yeah it has some silly stuff, but by Fallout 2 they were already going LOOK HOW DENSE AND WACKY WE HAVE MADE THINGS LOL and Wasteland 2 kept SOME seriousness/grounding to it. More than anything Wasteland 2 had an absolutely terrible RPG system and a poor combat system even by the standards of "simple turn based RPG combat" that was tedious as poo poo. It's one of those games that I personally liked in spite of having really big problems. Wasteland 3 on the other hand is simply a good game. I guess it's "only" a nice length instead of super huge and deep?

I love the hell out of Wasteland 2 but it did have serious issues. I can't think of one thing in 2 that 3 didn't do better and I was so glad to have a snowy apocalypse as opposed to a desert style wasteland. Other than the stuff I mentioned before the ONLY thing I want is more. Some DLC letting more happen pre Yuma or even post endgame quest... I don't care which. I'm curious about the biodomes in the bottom of the map but really anything. Still wish that Yuma had been bigger and I could have had somewhere to apply that CCCP hood ornament that I got there.

I would have liked a substantial side quest after Aspen. I think the game does pretty well spacing out stuff to find elsewhere or going back to Colorado Springs, but after you finish Aspen it's basically straight to Liberty and the end of the game. Would have been nice to have something in that part of the map to really dig into.

It was fun stumbling on santa and his elves totally randomly, we didn't even hear the song on the radio until long after we'd taken care of it. 3 or 4 more weird self contained things in the world like that would be really awesome.

So I finally gave this a go and holy hell is this a buggy piece of poo poo. Just a few hours in besides one-off bugs here's a few that happen all the time: - My dudes just sliding around in combat, not animating the walk - Being shot through walls by turrets - not cover, proper walls - Not getting the hit chance preview if my current position does not have LOS to the enemy - Quickloading to before an encounter and still having the damage I've taken during the aborted attempt - Skills not triggering randomly (Rally, Serial Killer, probably more I haven't even noticed) Like, what? Is the GOG version not patched or something? Edit: The game itself seems better than WL2, but so far this is a way buggier experience than I had with that game.

Can't imagine them not updating the GOG version but I've also played it at launch and never experienced any bugs like that. The only really irritating one I've had was when I picked up a rifle and it didn't show up in the inventory. Oh and there's another patch coming out next month that adds permadeath as an option at the start and changes up respeccing so it costs money. Also a bunch of free cosmetics. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/719040/view/3021323757702486483

I highlight a tile to move to, I get the line that indicates I can hit the enemy from there but no hit chance number on the enemy at all. Sometimes. I thought it was because I moved from a position without LOS but that wasn't it. I had it change from line but no number to line with number by switching to the second weapon. If this is working as designed it's certainly confusing as hell. The sliding I might have fixed or maybe it's just coincidence, but I capped the framerate to 60 (previously it was running free anywhere between 90 and 130) and I haven't seen it again in half a dozen fights. Edit: The game seems quite hard even on Ranger difficulty. I hate those pigs, being allowed to be lit, move and explode in the first round. I get by with decoys (or a sacrifice) for now because I just don't have the first strike capability to take them down in time. GhostDog fucked around with this message at 20:30 on Mar 2, 2021 |
