thehandtruck posted:Are you guys enjoying the game? I wanted to so badly to like W2 but hated every aspect of it, especially the voice acting (which has never bothered me in any other game in memory). The presentation is much better and as someone who bounced off W2 this seems much better in a lot of ways. The faces outside cutscenes are kinda goofy is my main issue aesthetically, they all look like they're missing a few texture layers.

Played the first couple of hours of the game in coop and it was a surprisingly smooth experience. The only thing I don't really like is how easy it is to accidentally deselect one of your characters and leave them behind, but it's a very minor grievance

Two questions: 1) Will raising INT by twos retroactively give you skill points? 2) What's your comfortable level for INT/skill points per level? I ended up getting 6 INT for everyone since that seemed like a nice round number to start with. Of course, this meant that everyone more or less has poo poo physical stats apart from Coordination and that +2 AP, which seems important.

Early game Chickens are the kings of animal combat. They have a pretty ridiculous movement range and hit about twice as hard as Dogs/Cats/Foxes, its kind of hilarious. Also Dogs being the dedicated poisoner animal early on is toasterwarrior posted:Two questions: Unlike in Wasteland 2, Int only gives you a single point when you invest in it. Everyone gets a flat 3 skillpoints per level except for people with the Poindexter Quirk who get 4 on every even level. INT is really, really not worth investing in early game. Strength, Coordination, Charisma and Awareness will give you a lot more bang for your buck Personally for my 4 starter characters I did #1 (Vicous Avenger, serial killer) 8 Coordination, 4 Strength, 4 Awareness Heavy Guns Animal companion Mechanics Explosives #2 (The Boss, Poindexter) 6 Coordination, 4 Strength, 6 Awareness Assault Weird Science Nerd Stuff Armor Modding #3 (Vicious Avenger, mime) 6 Coordination, 6 Awareness, 2 Strength, 2 Charisma Small guns Lockpicking Leadership Sneaky poo poo #4 (Sex Machine, Medical Marvel) 6 Coordination, 6 Strength, 4 Speed Melee First Aid Toaster Repair Animal This lets the first two regular companions you pick up slot in perfectly since Kwon is an Assault rifle/Kiss rear end and the second one is Small Guns/Barter. Heavy Weapons on the first guy can be replaced with Sniper, but goddamn Heavy Weapons are good and fun to use. Zore fucked around with this message at 06:36 on Aug 28, 2020 |

That's why there are so many around and more will spawn back at your HQ. You can heal them and when you use the doctor they get a full heal with the rest of your party. If you really invest in it you will eventually be able to grab some that are utter monsters who realistically won't die unless you get a TPK Cats/Dogs/Chickens though will definitely die if focused by enemies. Remember to grab the Animal Training perk to make them much tougher.

Verviticus posted:????? how on earth does this work? do they just take control of a char in combat You split party members between the two players and then each player can just do whatever they want on their own. The inventory is shared but you can run around and talk to different people, accept/complete different quests and so forth. If you are in the same conversation only one player gets to make the choice, but you get to see what the other player wants to choose and you can pass conversation control to the other player whenever you want. It's honestly all surprisingly smooth

Ugh four custom characters feel just a little too tight. It's hard to decide what character to give up on.

I rebound individual party member selection from numpad 1-6 (numpad???) to the top row 1-6. Except the game doesn't tell you that 1-5 are already redundantly bound to the hotbar abilities like shoot, crouch, reload despite them having dedicated keys already. So hitting the numbers worked for selecting characters but it would simultaneously sometimes do the hotbar ability, causing my characters to randomly crouch or go into force fire mode, or sometimes just go totally unresponsive to all clicks whatsoever until I realized what the gently caress was happening. Nothing in the hotbar has the keybinds shown in their UI of course. Other than the UI being a bit poo poo it seems alright so far. Looks like I didn't realize INT was a dump stat and rolled a character with 6, we'll see how badly that goes.

|

I did not know that INT only gave bonus points on character creation, RIP. Well, I suppose I could redo with like 4 INT on everyone, I guess. 3 utility skills and 1 combat or so.

So, the game takes forever to load. I am experiencing Witcher 1 Hut load times every time I try to transition, and this is on an SSD. I have tried verifying files and moving to another SSD, it is a marginal improvement, at best. How the hell did the Beta come to this state? On the plus side, you get a gunslinger who shoots straight.

God damnit. I have 5 character concepts I like but we can only make 4 Rangers. * Leader (with Leadership) / Fires AR / Speech Checks * Nerd / Gunslinger / Nerd Things (computers and such), High Skill Points character, Healer * Sniper / Lock Picking (nice synergy between shooting and looting with high Luck Stat) * SAW Operator / Big Guns/Explosives / Armor/Weapon Modding (maybe Mechanic) * Melee / Tank / Bashes things' head in I guess the most redundant are the SAW/Sniper (ranged, high DPS) but the SAW is good for explosions while the Sniper, being the lock picker/safe cracker is pretty much a must have. It was hard to go from 6 members in PoE1 to 5 in Deadfire and now loving 4 in WL3.

The Prisoner is my favorite character so far, lmao, maaan Voice acting is really good so far, especially for major characters. Dark humor is on point. Overall I'm enjoying it more than W2. Combat is smoother and faster. My biggest gripes so far are the camera being slow to rotate and I wish you could zoom out more. There are areas where the game isn't real polished, like W2, but it doesn't really detract too much imo. Overall balance seems pretty good, every character type gets good use out of 3-4 major stats. For my sniper small arms and sniper seem like a very good pairing, as well as stacking +AP. Vicious Avenger and Bopper seem real good with little drawbacks, same with wasteland wanderer

If you try to multitask while running the game, certain things can and will gently caress up. The most obvious one so far is the into going out of sync with the audio, but I've also had some issues with the UI when I try to do things in Chrome with the game up.

So I decided to make one of my first two ranger into an ultra Charisma Leadership guy. This has led to an awkward situation though, where the SECOND of my starting two characters is wildly behind in exp because new party members come at the level of your highest level member or something? I dunno if it's ALWAYS like this or if it's just for that initial recruitment, but if it's always like this couldn't you have one ultra charisma guy getting 40% more levels and then remaking your custom soldiers every now and then to catch them up? Also the Leadership 3 Perk is insanely good because it's basically a gigantic burst of free AP at the start of a fight at the low cost of not getting to move your leader much then. Really helps setup safer positions and damage during that critical turn 1. Anyways, game real good and fun so far. Good museum.

I never played the first two and picked a pregenerated duo because they said that the pregens have banter with each other. I’m only an hour and half into the tutorial but I’ve only heard one character say one thing and they’re silent 99% of the time so I think I’m going to restart with customs because that doesn’t seem to bode well for there being actual party banter

Would be cool if you could pick a duo and then just respec them if you felt like it.

I was just doing some napkin notes for planning out my characters, might as well share: A reviewer mentioned he got to level 27 while focusing on the main quest with the occasional sidestuff, so I'm taking level 30 as a reasonable possibility. My understanding is that the hard cap is 50 so being a completionist with xp boosting perks could likely get you additional points. Level 30 is 90 skillspoints, add 5 possible with Intelligence and a possible 15 with Pointdexter and it takes 28 points to max out a skill. If you're aiming for skill ratings of 10 you could max out 3 skills and have a few points left over outside of Intelligence and Pointdexter points. With skillbooks though, you probably won't want to max out your skills with points. Aiming for 9s we get 4 skills total (outside off Int and Pd). Finally we have skill boosting equipment, I don't know how rare these are or how good they get but a typical +1 seems more than likely for most skills outside maybe the firearm skills. Then we could aim for rank 8 in our selected primary skills for a total of 5 skills with a few points left over (again ignoring Int and Pd). For being safe you could plan around 9 for your primary skills, with more leeway if you are a completionist or grabbing Intelligence/Pointdexter. Please note this is quick napkin stuff on a coffee break going on things I've heard and a little early-access footage. If something is off, please correct me.

So once you select a quirk, I've found you can't select the 'no quirk' option.. Also, to confirm, lone wolf on a leader would be valid right, as leader does not gain from leadership anyway?

Got a little bit of time before starting the game in Co-op so a few general build questions 1. Barter/Weapon/Armour Modding. Do you have to be controlling the character who has the skill to benefit from / Use it ? or just have him in the squad to open up the option? (e.g. Co-op partner has Weapon modding, does he have to do it all or can I 'use' the skill in the menu, Do I have to be controlling the Barter character to get the extra money from sales etc.) 2. LUCK, Does it affect loot at all or just mainly combat buffs? Could I make a max luck character with Lockpick, Toaster Repair, Prospector etc. and make him open everything and be rolling in money/items?

Just started the game. Should I go with the pre-made characters? Do they actually have any unique content in the game or is it just flavor? If I don't use them at the start, are they still recruitable somewhere? Edit: Apologies if it's already been covered. I don't want to get spoiled. Ugh, can't seem to change bindings of the camera panning (can't believe this is still a problem for us non-QWERTY keyboard users in 2020). Also super annoying that you can't unbind existing keys, since the game will not remove a binding if you use the same key for another action.
