The key is that's what's in the brains of the Republican funders (like Elon). Donnie doesn't directly have the money, so he's airing the poo poo that gets him the SuperPAC money. Donnie's people hope that it also executes a bank shot of "Kamala is too liberal!" as a side effect. It's a lot like how Donnie's direct poo poo is almost all about immigration when most don't give a gently caress.

Future Forward PAC is the main democratic equivalent and they're HAMMERING the "Donnie will give rich people tax cuts... here is secret video of him promising rich people tax cuts! BTW here's a worker named Buddy watching the clip and saying 'i'm not rich as hell" and that's why Kamala's fought the economy issues to a draw.

I've been living out of the country for the past 8 years (and will be for the foreseeable future), so it's been pretty great being able to mostly ignore... *gestures vaguely*

But I still intentionally subject myself to lifespan shortening levels of stress, especially around election time. :shepicide:

Trump also has not given a single good answer (hell not even really a coherent one for that matter) in response to any of the questions he's gotten about how he'll fix the economy throughout this entire campaign season. That's not hyperbole: every time he gets asked about anything economic he veers into the same rambling poo poo about tariffs, a few confusing sentences about manufacturing, and a bunch of his signature superlative sentences that say literally nothing. Not that Americans hugely care about the nitty gritty details of economic policy, but Trump hasn't even been putting forth, like, the concepts of a plan, there's literally nothing for people to even grasp at. Every time the economy is brought up in debates, town halls, interviews it's the same thing. Lowkey it's one of the most remarkable things about his campaign: he somehow has managed to lose the Republican's seemingly unbreakable reputation for being better at the economy.

Wrt the transphobia stuff, that was pretty soundly and unambiguously rejected by voters in 2022, but yeah the people writing the biggest checks to republicans love it so it's a cornerstone of gop messaging now. One of the big things I come back to about this election so far is how muddled and just generally off-message republicans have been for months now on any issue that isn't basically 14 words or transphobia. Meanwhile dems have had probably the longest straight run of just rock solid messaging that I've ever seen out of them.

In his mind, a good answer is "You're going to see our bigly plans very soon.": non-committal, vague, open-ended, and utter bullshit his base will buy.

It was either The Daily Show or Kimmel that did a supercut of him endlessly teasing the Obamacare replacement he's had being just a couple weeks away for 7 years now.

I believe today's NYT-Siena polls are going to be the last polls of the entire cycle - and hooray there are no surprises. A bit odd that they came up with Harris by a bit in Nevada, but everything's all toss-ups again as expected.

Have your weed, booze, and/or busybody activities ready for Tuesday/Wednesday!

Among voters who said they made up their minds in the last few days about which candidate to support, Harris leads Trump 58% to 42%.

Nope, it's mixed. The analysis article has this bit:

quote:

The survey does offer a clue that voters have been shifting down the stretch. We asked voters when they decided to support their candidate. Among those who said they decided over “the last few days,” Ms. Harris had a 58-42 lead — including leading, 66-34, among late deciders in the Sun Belt, while Mr. Trump led, 60-40, among late deciders in the North.

Which is an inversion of what everyone else has seen, late deciders breaking Kamala in the north. Likely an artifact of small sample sizes.

And also, more information on why the Selzer poll might be right: abortion.

Steve Kornacki posted:

June: DMR poll has Trump +18 vs. Biden in Iowa

July 29: Iowa’s six-week abortion ban goes into effect with intense controversy and news coverage

September 22: DMR poll shows 59-37% opposition to new abortion law — 69% among women. Also shows Trump lead over Harris at just 47-43%

All fall: Saturation ad spending and campaigning on abortion by Dem candidates in the state’s two toss-up House races

Now: Final DMR poll has massive gender gap pushing Harris into 47-44% lead

The presidential race has ignored the state, but there are competitive house races blanketing the air and women are pissed about the abortion ban. Plausible to me!

Tuesday feels like a day I know I'm going to go insane, do usual poo poo at work and once I get home it's bashing F5 and drugs. I know it's mentally not good and poo poo but after listening to all the political bullshit for the past 4+ years, to ignore the biggest night, even if no clear winner is announced is to me like turning off a 4 year movie the minute before the killer is revealed or something to the equivalent of that.

Plus, the moment I saw, was it Megyn Kelly?, run down the hallways to the Fox News "election team" room on live tv to really confirm that Obama was on track to win in (2012 wtf are years these days) was amazing and worth it to watch and would love to see some recreation like that with Harris on live tv.

:patriot:

For what it's worth, my background is in political science and applied statistics (emphasis on polling/samples), so I'm full of poo poo, but possibly less full of poo poo than others. And it's annoying that I have a decent event memory, so when I see today's poo poo like this:

https://x.com/AccountableGOP/status/1853117997910561172?t=Nn1txICiOKOQ39OqAsF1Rg&s=19

https://x.com/Redistrict/status/1853124567692091762?t=HuE97wgqxC-q2p7dnCqsYw&s=19

I think it's 2016 with a better democratic candidate. Donnie sounded just like this when he was internally getting projections of "you're hosed and going to lose", with similar campaign fingerpointing.

Bluesky has a thing of "make two election predictions you coward". So, my prediction result is 270-268 Kamala, with Kamala sweeping the blue wall states by at least 2%, with a huge possibility of a blue sweep. I think the post-election period will be relatively quiet, with a bajillion lawsuits and lots of Donnie mouth noises, but nobody shows up, just like his big call for people at his NY trial.

The folks behind Bluesky are pushing two main products: the social media app everyone who doesn't like the Nazi bird site knows and loves and the distributed, open-source protocol that only nerds are aware of or care about. Bluesky is just one access point to the protocol, such that the former's degradation or demise is theoretically meaningless as all the data can theoretically be hosted in a completely decentralized network that other apps can be created for.

Whether this pans out in practice remains to be seen, but it seems conceptually sound.
