Hannibal Rex posted:What's a good site/stream to watch election coverage from outside the US, besides this thread? The more sober and analytical and less sensational, the better. Nothing really exciting is going to happen until around 8pm EST. Florida's polls close at 7 local time (so 7est for most of the state and 8est for the panhandle) and counting is near because all mail in ballots have been scanned by the machines. Florida returns will start popping up around then. Other states will also start popping up around 8ish as well with some being called throughout the night. PA will take a bit to count because they could not start counting mail in votes until today. During the day we'll have various bits of news, but no one knows anything at all until around 8pm.

There was a no line at our polling place according to my wife. Granted our precinct is pretty small and the local school hosts a few different precincts, I was pleased to see a full parking lot. The Pennsylvania Secretary of State website turned on their Election Results website. For the policy wonks and statistical dorks, there is a mode where you can view the presidential returns bucketed by voting method. Even though I don't expect meaningful results until this evening, I am going to keep this up in the background. The disclaimer at the top of the website states that unofficial returns will be posted until counties conclude their certifications. https://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/General/VoteByMethod?officeId=1&districtId=1&ElectionID=105&ElectionType=G&IsActive=1&isRetention=0 Thank goodness I'm working from home today.

To add to the big turnout numbers, there was a major surge in early voting last weekend that is abnormal in my county in FL. This is a 2:1:1 D:R:I split county. 2020 turnout was 76% and it was 75% in 2020. Sunday was an abnormally large amount of early voters and was the largest single early voting day in the county. Early voting in 2016 was 32%. In 2020 it was 30% in 2020. EV turnout this year was 39%. Counting mail in ballots with EV, it was 48% turnout before election day in 2016, 60% in 2020 (because of large amounts of mail in voting) and 59% in 2024. At the rate we're going, we'll pass the 75% turnout mark before lunch.

Stocked up on liquor and have my PS2 set up. Once I get back from work I'll be turning off my phone and regressing to a pre-internet existence, safe in the warm embrace of Onimusha.

I may actually watch the college football playoff rankings debut as a distraction. I might also cause issues in the bar when I, as the only sportsball watcher, scream that the voting is rigged.

It's gonna be bumpy but I think we're gonna send that piss goblin packing yet again.

What are the chances of Trump declaring victory way too early? 100% 110%?

I'm gonna have a nap before the numbers start hitting, and then I swear I'll stay awake until I know who the president is. And then I might drink until I forget again. Depending on the breaks

A couple days back when I went to vote early, a republican woman was trying to convince me to vote for her people and the local folks who were unafilliated (I figured I'd be polite and at least learn who not to vote for). On the last one she was insistent that this one guy would bring back bathroom bans for trans people. I'm trans. Apparently I pass a hell of a lot better than I realized. So I dropped to my old voice and said "well this is awkward." Watching the smile melt off her face was loving priceless. Anyways I hope the rest of NC doesn't vote to go back to regressive shitstain status, I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to watching the results come in but I'm doing a shot for every battleground state that gets declared, either in celebration or in mourning

I voted...in September And I still had to wait 30 minutes in line to do so. Can't even imagine what sort of bonkers turnout numbers we end up with at the end.

Small town voting place has a bit of a line but nothing crazy. I hosed up getting an electronic ballot instead of paper as they only have 3 machines and it’s going to take significantly longer.

Took 3 flipping hours to get through the voting line. Guess it'll be heavy turnout. Getting a handle of Evan and turning on news multiview. Wreck my neurons up, fam.

I wonder if we'll get fox news ignoring the results for 20 mintues then dragging their analysts out on stage for Karl Rove to yell at them again.

Leisurely vote by mail a couple of weeks ago, trying not to f5 too much, working and then doing certifications afterwards to keep me busy. I might get to bed at a decent hour waiting for the results on the West Coast.

Essentially, sorta: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/10/21/fox-news-decision-desk-2024-election-00184396 Also in 2020, this precinct had 2500 voters with 730 total in person ballots by the end of the day. Today, with 4000 voters, we just hit 559 and it's not lunchtime yet.

I'm thinking having a beer or three, or possibly trying to smoke some weed and then going to bed super-early tonight, and then putting my phone into airplane-mode just so there's no risk of my American friends calling me up in the evening/middle of the night due to ridiculous developments like the last time on January 6th Alas, I still barely have any statistically-significant experience with weed, so I'm kinda hesitant

I've found today much more relaxing than anything prior to today. There's no more bullshit speculation. No more polls which may or may not be loaded/herded to look better than they are. We have an idea as to what might happen, the odds seem in our favor, and all that's left is to count the votes. So, I'm balancing my business checkbooks, watching South Park, taking a nap, playing Flight Sim, and watching old WCW thanks to other Goons around the time returns start coming in. I've never enjoyed/been into , so I've got my anxiety booster meds on standby.

How does the ‘can’t start counting mail in ballots till Election Day’ thing work in PA? Is that like, can’t open the envelopes till this morning or is there a huge stack of ballots just waiting to be run thru a scantron?

The election judges phone foghorned the three kids walking into the queue to get scanned in to vote their first time and shouted: "NEW VOTERS!" Everybody clapped and I'm not trolling, this happened. It made me smile. I love that stuff. Adults embarrassing kids since time immemorial.
