Looks like Harris underperformed in Pennsylvania across the board compared to Biden four years ago. And I guess we're getting a republican house and senate too? Just an all around bloodbath for democrats, jesus. Can't wait to see what Musk and the brainworm guy will get up to now that they have high level positions locked in for Trump Administration 2.

From a spaceflight perspective, DRACO is going to get cancelled because it obsoletes Starship as a propulsion system, Starship HLS will be the only option for putting people on the moon, and it's probably going to kill at least a half dozen astronauts when its operational timelines are accelerated beyond safety limits. Because that sethefreken fuckstain needs his heavy lift rated penis extension to be the be all and end all for space exploration.

The NHTSA is going to be absolutely crippled so that worthless fuckstain can poo poo out broken fire hazards with four wheels even faster and with even less QC. He'll probably worm his way into the FCC and FAA as well so there can be 24/7 launches of short lived Starlink constellations and the prices will be jacked up based on whether or not you live in a county that voted for big strong daddy dumpies.

Humans don't have any business leaving Earth, holy poo poo. We can't even take care of the one planet we have as it is. We should defund every space program and save the galaxy from ever having to deal with our hosed up species. Ruining one planet is bad enough.

The Senate was toast in any case of Trump winning the election, even a relatively good night for Kamala would have still included a high chance of the GOP winning the Senate. The map was simply that bad. So any Trump win would come with the ability to get all his appointments confirmed. Sure, they can now ram through any budget they like, but that's a two-edged sword. The filibuster remains in the Senate, as long as the GOP doesn't nuke it. Which they might, or might not. There are still some old school GOP Senators left who cling to an old image of the Senate and might vote against such a reform. But they might cave to pressure from Trump, too. But if they do all of that, they will be 100% responsible for everything that happens. Even if they don't nuke the filibuster, it will be their budget that gets signed by Trump. So this carries considerable risks. If the Democrats had retained the House, Trump and the GOP would have blamed all their failures on obstructionist Democrats. That excuse will be gone. And this might generate a considerable backlash by the voters in 26 and 28. At least that's my hope. All of this still sucks, condolences to US goons who have to live with this. And it won't be nice for us in Europe, either.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my time and money over the next four or five years. Part of me wants to go full on burn-every-cent-for-hedonism, but that kind of falls apart if we do survive the next term and also there is an election in 2028 that the Ds do find a way to win. And that the GOP peacefully concedes after losing. And that the winning D candidates survive. Because that's about the level of humanity I'm expecting from Republican voters in this decade.

I already know what Democrats are going to run on in 2028: "at least we aren't Trump!!!". Even if they win the presidency, the Senate, and the House it's not like they're going to actually get much of anything done. I doubt we will see any progressive legislation passed at the national level again during my lifetime, and Im only 37. The government will be gutted and the courts packed with Heritage Foundation freaks.

And then a second. And then a third. So, yeah. Maybe it's toxoplasmosis but I'm more than happy to be That Single Guy With A Cat. What I really need to do is reassemble some of the computers in my apartment so they aren't cat bait. Because you know what's really attractive to a cat? An open, warm, semi-enclosed space. And I'd rather my cat not short out my desktop or one of the mid-repair vintage computers that make up probably half the space in my living room. So I guess I'm gonna be That Single Guy With A Lot Of Nerd poo poo And Guitars And A Cat. And I can live with it.

Yay, cats! This is my mom and stepdad's current cat, Frankie. She was a rescue. ![]() Part of me wants to get a bonded pair but I've never personally cared for one cat on my own let alone two. Also I need to find somewhere in my apartment for a litter box -- this place was built only five years ago but was definitely not designed by people who owned cats. I genuinely might have to just walk the doors off the laundry closet and put a litter box in there because there isn't enough room in the bathroom to put one without removing the fucken door from it. Or maybe I guess I could put one in the walk-through closet and re-calibrate how I store my many many boxes of crap that I should just throw out.

Also bonded pairs are overrated, unless you’re going shelter. The two above are both friend-has-a-litter kitties, separated by 4 years. We kept them separated by a door for about a week. The huge orange one was a dick to his new little sister for about a week after that but now they each do their own thing, except when it gets cold and they snuggle up.

If you gave the thirty-thousand-foot view of either campaign to an observer in 2014, they’d look at the tire fire and say “Wow there’s no way these folks win. You don’t even have to show me the other one.” And yet, in typical American extravagance, there were two such campaign—three, if you count Biden and Harris separately.
|
|
|
|
Welp, time to burrow away for 4 more years, turns out the real lesson of this election is that campaigning (good or bad) doesn't matter in the slightest and is just a waste of time and money. My vote mattering appears to be split: Trump won WI by 30k votes or so, but Tammy Baldwin appears to be on track to keep her seat by about the same margin (unless the final 2 percent flips it). The house seat for where I voted went R but it was R in 2022 so whatever.
