Turns out taking that Atarax at whatever time it was because I didn't look at the clock was a good move. Whatever happens in the next 4 years to the detriment of the people that voted for him is something they deserve. My only hope is he follows through with all of his promises as well as he did with building the wall and all 40 miles of it or whatever the hell it was.

This year, my local dem party, which is entirely run by boomers and entirely ineffective (seriously, there were 10 unopposed republicans for local offices on my ballot yesterday) pul;led out all the stops to keep a group of us progressive types out of leadership, and now the dems have once again collapsed locally and nationally as America votes in a fascist who has promised to do the dumbest poo poo possible and empower the dumbest people possible to do global harm. So honestly, fuckit. I live in a red state, red county, and red community that went even more red yesterday. My voice and my vote don't matter. 25 years of being far more engaged than the average person and America is measurably worse in many, many ways. I think I'm done paying attention.

I feel fortunate to be privileged enough to be looking at the impending collapse of civilization and thinking "well, I can at least set myself up a personal bubble of everything-is-going-to-be-okay and maybe if I'm lucky wait it out" instead of the "the whole world is going to try to kill me and I am powerless to stop them" that the rest of the online left is going through right now. I don't like being in this position, but at least it's letting me stave off a couple panic attacks.

Really hoping all the online "leftists" making GBS threads on Biden and Harris for the last five years are about to come out and announce their one cool trick to save the republic. Folks so thoroughly vilified voting, declaring it insufficient to the task at hand, so surely they've spent the time organizing a coherent movement that will offer a groundswell against fascism. No? Literally nothing I voted for won. The maliciously misleading text on the anti-gerrrymandering issue here in Ohio caused that to fail as expected. I live in corn country and the Democratic candidate was a Somali refugee so that worked out well.

The polls have been right for over a year and they said not only was Biden deeply unpopular but so was his platform. Dems got a once in a lifetime chance to dump both but nope that would ruin too many legacies and unemploy too many election experts. Unfortunately this problem isn't just confined to the Beltway. You can skim through this very thread and watch people deny reality for months and months while cheerleading every right turn and patting themselves on the back for how smart it all looked. Couldn't really sleep, or at least getting any restful sleep. I took an edible, put Fellowship of the Ring on, and started to get sleepy around midnight. My anxiety basically prevented me from getting any restful sleep, and I basically woke up at multiple points with my heart racing . At the very least, I laid there and tried to sleep while focusing on breathing exercises rather than doom scrolling. I think what gets me the most is not that he won, but that he's seemingly going to get the popular vote too. My wife and I were seriously considering moving to Seattle next spring/summer, but now? Well, I have Canadian citizenship, may as well use it. She's wanted to leave this country for years, and has a job that is in demand in Canada and the UK (she got an offer for a job in NZ earlier this year but had to decline because the pay very very low), so, mine as well gently caress off then. I realize every country has it's issues, and Canada is likely going to have it's own reckoning next year, but I'll still take that over this bullshit. gently caress this stupid country.
