I'm not going to truly believe we're past the worst of the danger zone until Biden sits in the Oval Office. The GOP is ramping up its "THE DEMONRATS ARE STEALING THE ELECTION" rhetoric and folks are treating it as them just being sore losers that will come to nothing. There's a non-zero chance that the Republicans talk themselves into taking steps that would tear the country apart. They're already telling their voters that Democrats are the ones actively doing so, so rallying their base to the "defense of the republic" is not outside the realm of possibility, unthinkable through it may be.

The part that loving killed me was (paraphrasing) 'every single operational Infantry company in theater admitted they took human trophies'. I know that I have a horribly romantic of what a Grunt is, and how they operate, but what does taking ears and fingers do? Nothing. It doesn't "scare" the enemy anymore than a loving ambush, arty, air strike, or napalming their loving village does. Maybe I'm the anomaly, but the job of an Infantryman is not to kill indiscriminately; it's to effectively apply violence until you achieve compliance of the objective. You are supposed to be loving professional. You kill who needs to be killed, when they have to be killed. Like, it was one of the few times I felt a bit of shame that I shared the title.

UP THE BUM NO BABY posted:The Vietnam documentary is pretty good but starts from a flawed premise about the legitimacy of the Republic of Vietnam, doesn't speak much to the common brutality faced by the Vietnamese people, and undersells the war crimes perpetrated by Americans, especially by focusing so much on My Lai when it was in no way an aberration or out of the normal for operations in Vietnam. I think my biggest problem with it is that it's probably one of the more watchable documentary series about Vietnam but it misses the mark quite a bit imho I had this very talk on Discord the other day. I don't think anyone believes that The Vietnam War is a 100% "authentic" take on the war, not just because documentaries will always have some form of bias, but also because it starts from an "incomplete" explanation of the situation in Indochina post-French-occupation, but that said, it's really the "best" piece about it out there, especially since it's the most extensive that I've ever seen. I agree about the whole "singling out" the My Lai massacre from a documentary standpoint, since its the only time that the war crimes really take the spotlight in an episode, but there's a whole ton of poo poo about atrocities covered from the point of view of the people interviewed in the series, it's just not really in the spotlight.

Faithless electors would be such a brazen attack on democracy it would probably break things enough to generate a much stronger desire for change. At least that would be my hope but it would probably instead lead to nothing getting done.

So what states could legally sent different electors? Arizona (currently) is Republican controlled. If they’re bat poo poo crazy enough to do it, is there anything in Arizona laws to prevent it? That said I’d be shocked if they could pull that off, because I’m sure the entire McCain family would just come out and trash dump on it.
