It's pretty ironic trump was the "anyone but Hillary" candidate who then lost to a "anyone but trump" candidate. Also funny that my phone still doesn't capitalize trump after 4 years.

"You're ruining my budget", or whatever he said about Puerto Rico in response to Maria as if they asked for a Category 5 hurricane just to dick with him, was the point at which Trump became irredeemable in my book. He made a glorious mess of himself in the three years to follow. Handsome Ralph posted:gently caress. Donald. Trump.

Since I'm living overseas, I'm actually kind of excited to see what kind of terrible pissfit the pissbaby will throw in his last months in office... as long as he doesn't launch nukes. I feel for you guys who are going to be more directly affected by the fallout, though. At least it looks like some Republicans are starting to turn on him, and news networks are stopping pulling their punches.

Super weird that something as seemingly benign as having a pet speaks a lot about a person. I’ve met plenty of people who don’t have pets because their lifestyle makes it unfair to the pet, but what kind of psycho doesn’t at least want a dog or cat? My wife and I have to talk each other down from getting more pets because we already have two dogs and two cats. At least once a month on of us sees a stray that we want to take in and the other has to talk logic that we can’t afford it, or it wouldn’t be fair to the other pets we already have.

I think Nate is closest to my electoral hot take, based on what I know right now. Not to spur a debate or long discussion, just bringing this up: https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1325495694984171520?s=19 https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1325496923575492650?s=19 It's still very early, so we can't really make huge conclusions. But it seems pretty clear that if Donnie had just shut the flying gently caress up about COVID and give it to scientists, he would've coasted to reelection. Everything else in the House/Senate is so close that either "more DSA-style candidates" or "more centrist candidates" doesn't have a clear answer at this point. Also possibly not wrong (though Pelosi was working on bad polling): https://twitter.com/samstein/status/1325497338853462017?s=19 facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 18:03 on Nov 8, 2020 |

And yeah, we've been hearing for four years "if only Donnie had shut up about..." but he wouldn't because that's fundamentally who he is. He's a belligerent, arrogant, ignorant loudmouth. He's not just playing one on TV.

Defenestrategy posted:Didn't mitch basically shrug at a second deal and go "gently caress off til after the election" Sorta. Mitch wanted business money and business liability protection without all the extra poo poo. The White House could never figure out what they wanted and how much they wanted, so it never really got to the Mitch point. Mitch just kicked the corpse when it was obviously dead.

Mitch's red line was money given to anyone, or any help at all to anyone. His agenda was protecting business against law suits and tax breaks. It was never going to pass.

I forgot about bitching about this I think I said something like "gently caress it just send them an offer for another round of trump bux, mcconnells not gonna pass it anyway." Thats some really hosed political calculous if so. Because it meant pelosi and house caucus with held doing everything they could to help people who where actually suffering to score a few percentage points at the polls.

Defenestrategy posted:Oh yea... I forgot about bitching about this McConnell obstruction aside, it's a calculation that had to be made. Is the help given to people by a one-time check alone worth another four years of Trump and McConnell destroying more lives? I wouldn't say that it is.
