bird food bathtub posted:The left will never have a propaganda machine to rival Fox and poo poo like that. There's billionaires willing to fund the GOP media empire for messaging purposes and personal profit. Anything on the other side would cost them money. While the left will never have a media apparatus comparable to the right's, the media environment is also changing rapidly. Thanks to the internet, it's much easier reach vast audiences without massive amounts of capital investment, and to tailor messages to specific groups. For as much flak as the Pod Save America folks get from the left, for instance, this is actually something they've been able to do successfully: putting spotlights on Democratic politicians, organizers, and activists, advertising ways for their listeners to volunteer or contribute for various Democratic campaigns and causes, and giving platforms for activists to advocate for farther left policy (Such as M4A advocate and former Michigan gubnatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed's America Dissected series). The challenge now is figuring out the best way to utilize these resources and audiences, put a greater emphasis on digital organization, and also to loving beat it into the heads of every Democrat running for office that this is how it works now and they can't ignore it.

I got curious about states that accept mail-in ballots after election day. In all cases they require a postmark from either the day-before or day-of the election. I was surprised that there is still opportunity for additional ballots to "appear" in several states.pre:yes Maryland yes Washington 14 days Illinois 10 days Alaska 10 days Ohio 7 days DC 7 days Mississippi 7 days Nevada 7 days New York 6 days Iowa 5 days West Virginia 3 days California 3 days North Carolina 3 days Virginia

That said that's exactly what I would expect someone behind the mic to say.

I've worked with a couple boomer vets who genuinely believe there are no leftist liberals in the military. When I point out that I have irl friends who are leftist vets it immediately gets no true Scotsmaned into "well there are no leftist combat vets." When corrected on that it then turns into a rant about millennial snowflakes and suggestions that leftists aren't mentally tough enough to serve and are inflating our PTSD stats. Also the vets loudly insisting the above all were in intel.

I was going to say that in previous years when dealing with a BIL who is a shithead CHUD, never served, and is a ~*~Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine~*~ he would make the same argument whenever I called him out on foreign policy stuff. I'd let him spout dumb domestic stuff but foreign policy is my wheelhouse. Also, maybe just Navy versus other branches, but our intel guys were usually left leaning or classic neocons. The exception being the intel center OIC who, when I came back from AFG after the last election, changed all the TVs from HLN or sometimes FNC to OANN and not even football on Sundays.
