Yeah fair, so long as said voters don't find another excuse. "I don't think America is ready for a black woman president so imma vote fascist" is a concern I have, but Obama did win convincingly and Hillary did carry a popular plurality.

Still another 3.5 months to go so we all know how much could change between now and then, but my gut feeling is if Harris loses, it's another "40k voters in two swing states were the deciding factor" scenario, not a blowout.

Also big lol at rumors that Trump is already prepared to ditch Vance.

If like me, you need to look Steve Sailer up, here's the wiki rundown:

quote:

He is currently a columnist for Taki's Magazine and VDARE, a website associated with white supremacy.

Sailer popularized the term "human biodiversity" for a right-wing audience in the 1990s as a euphemism for scientific racism. Sailer was the founder of an online electronic mailing list called Human Biodiversity Discussion Group.*

He has been featured as a guest on The Political Cesspool,[24] a far-right radio program which has been widely criticized for promoting antisemitism and white supremacy.

In 2008, Sailer published his first book, America's Half-Blood Prince, an analysis of Barack Obama based on his memoir Dreams from My Father.

In his writing for VDARE, Sailer has described black people as tending "to possess poorer native judgment than members of better educated groups" and thus need stricter moral guidance from society.[33] In an article on Hurricane Katrina, Sailer said in reference to the New Orleans slogan "let the good times roll" that it "is an especially risky message for African-Americans."[34] The article on Hurricane Katrina was criticized for being racist by Media Matters for America and the Southern Poverty Law Center, as well as some conservative commentators.[35][23] Neoconservative[36] columnist John Podhoretz wrote in the National Review Online blog that Sailer's statement was "shockingly racist and paternalistic" as well as "disgusting".[34]

Rodolfo Acuña, a Chicano studies professor, regards Sailer's statements on race as providing "a pretext and a negative justification for discriminating against US Latinos in the context of US history". Acuña wrote that listing Latinos as non-white gives Sailer and others "the opportunity to divide Latinos into races, thus weakening the group by setting up a scenario where lighter-skinned Mexicans are accepted as Latinos or Hispanics and darker-skinned Latinos are relegated to an underclass".[37]

The term "Sailer Strategy" has been used for Sailer's proposal that Republican candidates can gain political support in American elections by appealing to working-class white workers with heterodox right-wing nationalist and economic populist positions. In order to do this, Sailer suggested that Republicans support economic protectionism, identity politics, and express opposition to immigration, among other issues. The goal of this is to increase Republicans' share of the white electorate, and decrease its minority share of the electorate, in the belief that minority votes could not be won in significant numbers.

*

quote:

The framing of "human biodiversity" discourse is meant to confer upon the movement scientific authority, and present it as empirical and rational.[1][8] On this basis, advocates of HBD wish to advance social policies based on their observations.[1][8] In a study on white nationalism, the authors describe "human biodiversity" as a movement to "catalog and create hereditarian ideas" about racial differences, and to then distribute them as "red pills" to transform online discourse.[9] "Human biodiversity" materials are used by alt-right proponents to make arguments on 4chan, Reddit, and Twitter.[9] Some proponents of HBD promote it in the alt-right blogosphere.[1][9]

The "human biodiversity" movement refers to a set of ideas about scientific racism that formed in the 1990s.[10][11][12] Sailer developed a concept of "ethnic nepotism", favoring members of one's own group.[13] Sailer took this as a biological imperative that necessitates "ethnocentrism, clannishness, xenophobia, nationalism, and racism", when applied to the scale of an entire society for "ethnic nepotism".[13]

HBD" stood for human biodiversity—a phrase that had gone viral within the alt-right blogosphere, largely owing to Sailer's repeated use of it. Human biodiversity: the hypothesis that people are different, that they differ in predictable ways, and that some groups of people—some races, for example—have drawn stronger cards in the genetic lottery. On Sailer's blog, most discussions of human biodiversity ended up returning to one specific, enduring idea: that white people are inherently smarter than black people
Between 2007 and 2014, terminology used by Stormfront for scientific racism changed from "racialism" and "race realism", to "human biodiversity" (HBD).[

"Human biodiversity" has been promoted by Milo Yiannopoulos.[8][24] It has also been promoted by Stefan Molyneux.[1] HBD influenced Stephen Miller, political advisor to Donald Trump.[9] It also influenced Dominic Cummings, political advisor to Boris Johnson.[9]

In an August 2003 article, the founder of the Human Biodiversity Institute, Steve Sailer, characterized homosexuality as a "disease" that may be eliminated by parents in the future.[4] HBI member Gregory Cochran has theorized that homosexuality may be caused by a pathogen ("gay germ").

"Middle class" is one of those phrases that pols like to use over and over because a lot of people regardless of the economic reality they're living in like to think they're middle class on some level.

But it doesn't matter, "We're not going back" hits it home in a short succinct way.

Nowadays we just call it middle class if you have a degree and career and property, and then we look at your income! 1.66-2x the median income in your area, so a family of DINKs would need to exceed 200k if they live in a metro area like Seattle, Boston, or D.C. Fun fact: maybe 20% do! I would think they would try to bring up the middle class less since there has been pretty sharp decline in the number of middle class citizens, wage gap being a big fucker... but hey, I guess it's not just republicans treating the voters like morons.

Regardless of the technical definition, the societal definition of "middle class" seems to have evolved to mean people who earn enough to not be dependent on welfare, but are still largely dependent on a single income stream (and thus full time employment) to get by. In other words, not financially independent or financially secure enough to weather a long term spell of unemployment or a substantial reduction in pay.

87% agreed with Biden's drop-out. Like I firmly believe polling is essentially broken when you're anywhere near margins of error, but that's a fuckin blowout and probably the numbers that finally got Biden to go.

Given that these are all from before Harris was even running or campaigning for president, is it crazy to assume that these numbers are basically a lower limit for her? I mean it's not like she's a complete unknown but there's a big difference between a VP who is mainly supporting and advocating for someone else, and campaigning on your own message and merits as the top of the ticket. It's hard to imagine her not gaining more ground as she gets out from under Biden's shadow.

Yes it is crazy. The Rs are spending millions right now to bring those numbers down with different segments of the population. They're very good at it.

That said I don't think they'll have anything that will work on huge segments of society. Mostly just your run of the mill race and gender baiting trash hopefully. But there is still a lot of election left to go.

It appears they're going to run the "too liberal, sucks at immigration, unlikable shrill woman, DEI nominee" playbook. They have a problem in that she's a cop, can talk about the bill Donnie killed, is funny in a likable way, and is a cop. Have I mentioned that she's a cop? She sure will! Hard lefties probably will too, inadvertently fighting against the "too liberal" marker.

But Republicans have bigger problems at the moment. Other than debates, which Donnie is waffling more than an IHOP about, the #1 opportunity to spike positive numbers is the convention. There's only two main goals of a political convention: introduce the Vice Presidential nominee, pump up the Presidential nominee.

And they got bad news - JD's a freak and recognized as such.

Per here, things clusterfuck depending on the timing.

I can imagine that some of these deadline dates could be waivered for VP switches, but it'll really depend on the absolute last possible day the states can send in their ballot orders. Donnie still has time for a switcheroo if he wants - Vance would simply say bye and it would get kicked to the RNC.

The 12th amendment specifies what happens then:

quote:

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice.

Trump kicking Vance off the ticket is out there, but not that out there. Like if I could get eight to one odds against it happening, I’d take it happening.

There were credible rumors that after publicly naming Pence in 2016, he thought he’d make a mistake and thought about taking it back. Then in 2019, rumors circulated that he would replace Pence, perhaps with Nikki Haley, for the 2020 election. He didn’t go through with that, but of course he has now chosen a different running mate for 2024, due to very public irreconcilable differences with Pence. He’s reported to have made the decision for Vance at the very last minute, on the day of the convention last week, informing Marco Rubio and others on the shortlist minutes before the balloons dropped.

The red flags are there, and Trump certainly has the temperament to do it even if it’s a bad move. And I’m honestly not sure that it is a bad move. John McCain dropping Palin would have been a sign of chaos and likely caused him to lose by even larger margins no matter who he chose as a replacement, but Trump already has a firmly established reputation for chaos. Who is going to say “well I would vote for this Trump fellow, but change of mind on his running mate really has be concerned about his qualities as a leader”?

The worst that would happen is that he loses Vance’s true believers, but I doubt that there are a great number of people more loyal to Vance than to Trump, to the extent that they would stay home if Trump snubbed Vance.

If Trump wants to cut vance loose, all he has to do is wait for Vance to put his foot in his mouth again and provide a semidecent pretext for the call. And Vance will provide that, guaranteed.

I dunno it would play into the old, stupid, floundering narrative that the Dems are undoubtedly going to employ for this election.
