If the polls slide as far as I think they might after the last 24 hours, look forward to the Team Trump narratives around "Fake Polls" as they continue to flail and corncob themselves. Not to get too far ahead of things, but there's got to be a point where the polls look so bad that their "stop the steal" operations end up being abandoned as the margins are just too high for it to work - not saying it'll get there, or that the Trump inner circle won't try anyway - but I think it makes sense that the wider the margin, the less likely state-based republicans are going to risk getting involved, so they'll try to build a narrative that their own polls had them substantially ahead, and the media were complicit in stealing the election. Also expecting a lot of "it's all Trump's fault we tried to stop him" from Murdoch mouthpieces and the GoP the day after the election if it's not a close race.

We all know if things do turn on Trump, they'll claim he was a mastermind that was able to pull the wool over the entire country's eyes.

Trump's cultists will never turn on him. They've been given countless opportunities to do so and they never take them. They'll double down on supporting him for the same reason Trump doubles down on picking Vance and being a piece of poo poo. If there's one thing they'll never do, it's admit they were wrong.

Will be very interesting, though Donnie's last two days were basically his entire campaign back in 2016. It appears he's trying to run an anti-Obama playbook (Kamala can't talk without a teleprompter and she's fake black!) combined with trying to make her Hillary (her laugh is so weird, she's crazy!!!). He has a real big problem in that he lost his juice and his VP pick is a creep. I still don't know if this is going to be a squeaker or a comfortable win in either direction. I don't think it's going to be decided in the last month anymore though. CBJSprague24 posted:So which suck up is their source based in that kind of speak? Roger Stone? This election will be the first time I'm voting in a US presidential election since I became a naturalized citizen, I'm also wondering if this will be the last time I'm voting in a US presidential election. In a rare moment of proactive thinking I decided to get off my rear end and get my citizenship done in late '22 while Biden was still in office because who the hell knows what's going to happen after that.

You can tell a Republican you're biracial and they can wrap their lovely grey matter around the concept as long as one part of that is "white" because then they have "...and all the rest" to categorize as the appropriate target against the whiteness. Tell someone you're Jamaican and Indian though and everything just kinda goes *frzzzzt* upstairs because "....and all the rest" isn't supposed to be multiple categories. It's just "not white". So you're telling them that they need to divide their whiteness index of that person by zero. "C'mon man, race war! Bring Kamala. No, wait, don't bring Kamala, what is she, Indian?" I know it’s still an extremely unlikely scenario but would be fun if trump meltdown like if he quit in October or something depressed GOP turnout so much they lost statehouses in deep red states, if just for the shenanigans it would uncover after decades of one party corrupt rule. Like in Arizona where the new governor found massive new desert developments had been green lit despite knowing there was insufficient water, or in Ukraine when they threw out the bad president in 2014 and found had a private zoo & restaurant that looked like a pirate ship.

Porfiriato posted:It's still too early to get worked up about individual polls but if Rasmussen has Harris +5 that's pretty wild. Different Rasmussen than the hyperchud variety. Rasmussen Reports are the hyperchuds that basically rig polling to get Republican-friendly numbers, enough to get kicked out of 538's numbers. The original guy runs RMG Research as his own independent thing: quote:In 2003, Scott founded Rasmussen Reports and served as President of the company for the following decade. Over time, however, he and the majority investors had different visions for the company’s future. In January 2013, Scott informed the board that he would not renew his contract. He left in July of that year and has not been involved with the firm since that time. But, the poll-over-poll thing stands - a big enough gap that 538 isn't even using polls before the Biden dropout. Always worth checking a pollster's old numbers to their new numbers, so long as the methodology is legit.

# ? Aug 2, 2024 20:41 |

Ahhh that makes a lot more sense. I even checked 538's pollster ratings to make sure it was (what I thought) was the joke pollster - they list them as "Scott Rasmussen (Rasmussen Reports)" so seems like they're a bit out of date as well.
